This is the tire thread. Talk about tires, no compound debates please. I wanna know what other people are riding in what types of conditions.

High Roller 2.7UST, 2.5UST for everything. They came stock and they seem to work well enough, so no reason to change them.

i've loved the way my 42 duro 2.7Ft and 2.5R nevagals work but they are on there way out. lookin at a set of super tacky minoins, should i do dual 2.7, 7ft,5R or dual 5's or what? i'm 180 ride dry and lose on the weekdays and Snowshoe on the weekends and need all the help cornering i can get. should i be looking at an other tire?

I used to run 2.3 Arrow Prime Wides. They worked great for dry stuff and okay for wet but the best thing about them was indestructable side walls. I ran between 15 and 18 PSI and never pinch flatted in around 20 days at Whistler. Now I run 2.5 Negevals, they are good all around, but especially in the mud.

After playing around for a bit, I've grown to love the 2.8 Mich mated to a 2.5 Hutchinson Octopus (like a Highroller with taller side knobs).

For faster rolling stuff I'll run the Hutchinson F & R. Rolls well and those tall, stiff side knobs dig! (note: the knobs on the 2.5's have been re-shaped slightly compared to the past and don't fold as easily).

So right. Last time I rode SB on a rear Lopes BlingdumbestnameforatireBling and it lastest 2 runs before all the side knobs were gone. The minions seem to hold up pretty well, though.

For most everything, I run a Nevegal 2.7/2.5 combo. It grips really well in almost every condition. There are better tires for hardpack, but the knobs don't fold or anything, so it's not too bad.

For fast, pedally courses or something with a decent amount of mud- Comp 16s

For a big mud-fest- Swampthings and maybe even a Michelin Mud if there are no rocks.

But if you had the 42a tires, they're gonna deteriorate quickly...

I'm out West. I've had good experience with Maxxis.

DH: F- Minion 2.5 F / R- Highroller 2.35 (for dry/ hardpacked)
or F- Minion 2.5 F / R- Nevegal 2.35

Trailbike: F- Mutanoraptor 2.4 / R- Weirwolf 2.1

Comp 16s for pretty much every british course. Even in super muddy conditions i find them really predictable.. If the conditions warrant a Mud 3, i don't ride :D

Dry Dusty rocky stuff i run a 32 up front and a 24 in the rear. Although again i usually can't be bothered changing tyres and run two 16s. Maybe a 16 up front and a 24 in the rear if its dry but not dusty.

I'm also on maxxis. If I had to stick on one set of tires Id' stay on 2.7 minion F and 2.5 minion R. Sub in a 2.5 highroller if it gets semi wet. If it is all out wet and/ or organic or grass soil I run 2.5 swampthings.

For FR/DH I have been running the Specilized Enduro Pro D2 UST / Bliss in 2.4 and really like them. They are light (~980 g), roll fast, dual compound, and do very well in loose loamy stuff (which is where I usually bail). They are not as gnar as a true DH tire, but hold almost as well and pedal great.

I like them so much I put the 2.2 version on my trail bike.

I'd say give the Hutchinson Octopus tires a try. Tried them this year and they are sweet. There are soft and medium compounds and have a good trade off between light weight and casing thickness. they hold like mad in the berms and have good braking characteristics...Also comes in a 2.3" size which is sweet for the rear if you want to get your pedal on.

FYI the Hutchinson Octoupses run big.
I have the 2.5 on my bike, it looks more like a 2.7.

A friend of mine runs the 2.3's on his trail bike, but they're significantly bigger than my 2.35 highrollers (which run small).

Hardpack & Loose over Hardpack- Front: 2.7 Minion DHF 40a, Rear: High Roller 2.5 40a

Although next year I was thinking of switching to a Kenda Neve 2.5 up front with a Blue Groove 2.5 in the rear...
