My bet is a cancer crazed lance fan knee caps AC Tonya Harding style on the first mountain stage.

It sucks that Cadel Evans lost so much time today. Kinda sucks having a contender get taken out of the race early in the TTT. It's not that I don't like watching Cadel lose, I just rather see him do it in his classic whiney bitch self destruct mode.

Taken from Armstrong's twitter page after the stage win today:

"And they might need to repair the pavement on the sections where Alberto was pulling. All in all, great day"

Can that be seen as anything other than another dig at Contador?
Ha, drama aside, I can't wait for the mountains to get lit up.
Or that he was going so hard, he burned a groove in the road...

That's what I thought of it.

I really wonder if Lance doing his weird attacking stuff early is another ploy to take AC out of the limelight. I think he's an arrogant douche and he'll do something to make me think otherwise. Then he'll make me think it again. I just know he's still a fast old man.

I still chuckle about Cavendish every time I think of the Tour. He's so obnoxious, yet fast, the only thing left for them to do is to bash his teeth. I really hope they do it early so we can enjoy it for weeks to come. :thumb:

Cavendish is cocky but at least he is genuine.

I take that as a compliment to Alberto... "dude was crushing the pavement he was pulling so hard".

Since moving from CA to Australia, the bonus is that I can watch the tour outside of work hours. However, it might destroy me by the end of July. Stages seem to end around 2am :(

Was listening to the Eurosport audio feed at work today.....

Commentator said Fabian Cancellara has lost 7 kilos since last year and could be a dark horse threat in the mountains.....just thought that was interesting......didn't follow Tour de Swiss but he won there as well...

I heard something similar, I think he wants to start getting into the longer races, after kind of dominating the TT/Classics. I don't know though, he still looks kind of "beefy," especially compared to the Schlecks, I just don't see him being able to go with those guys, Contador, Sastre, even Lance. He'd have to do it Indurain style, dominate the TTs, and just hang on in the mountains. He doesn't have enough time going in to them this time around though.

One thing I despise about American coverage of the Tour is the input from fans who know absolutely nothing about cycling.

I left the tv going after the Tour coverage finished, and I heard this stupid viral video fan show. Two bimbos and a guy wearing eyeblack were yelling at their PC cameras, debating about how tough the Tour is.

All I wanted to see was all three of them ride 25 miles right on the spot and then give their opinion.

The real tour starts tomorrow.

It's going to be interesting for sure to see how Johan treats an attack from one of his favorites. For instance: If Contador attacks out of the group will Lance be allowed to use his teammates to help him bridge, or will he be on his own? And if one of the favorites from another team attacks… do they put someone on his wheel, and if so who? This all makes for a very unpredictable tour. I think the only way it can be done as a team is for them to simply set and unreal pace up the mountain and just settle it thunder dome style.

Unpredictable is right. The whole Astana thing will make it interesting, as will the course. I can't believe they climb Ventoux right at the end. Not much of a limb but I predict that Lance will spend some time in yellow and that Contador will take the overall win.

I normally keep track during the week with the Velonews live ticker. They are certainly catering to the noobs and keep answering really ****ing stupid questions including the pervasive 'how's Lance doing'. It has been driving me nuts. I understand that the influx of recent fans is good for the sport but 99% of them will be gone forever in 2 weeks. No need to alienate the base.

I saw a question on there yesterday asking if a GC rider is having a bad day and is off the back, can the team substutute another rider for his time?:rofl:

Sure thing bud, and everybody gets a yellow participation jersey as well,
so the other 179 riders will not feel left out.

Several times a day they answer the question 'who is in the break' despite the fact they have a little box under that lists who is in the break.

It is worse than trying to explain American Football to a brit.

Eurosport guy said today the the TDF draw more fans than all of the other broadcasted races combined. I guess he was talking about their numbers in Europe......so that is surprising. In American the disparity is probably even bigger...

The Eurpsport guy was stating the viewership numbers as he dived into explaining how the race is a race of time and points and different jerseys. It actually was good when Sean Yates started talking about the combined jersey and old red sprinters jersey and really started to confuse people....

Thor is huge compared to the rest of the riders. Talk about drafiting, I bet some of those little spanish climbers could get sucked off their bike trying to ride behind him.

Anyone else think that maybe Cavendish got a little too cocky prematurely?
The guy is fast. Not sure anyone is going to challenge him anytime soon. Cocky doesn't really bother me....if he starts worrying about appearing humble he might lose his edge.

Was great to see Thor win yesterday though....:thumb:

Cocky about winning the green a little fast, I meant. It's a long way to Paris.

Rookie mistake by Feillu today too...zip up that jersey, son!
