Seemed like a shrewd move on Contador's part. Before he went, I was picturing Armstrong grabbing the yellow jersey (if not on the day, sometime soon) and deciding that he didn't want to let go--even if AC was the stronger man at the end of the tour. Would be tough to attack from a select group if your team mate was in yellow and twenty seconds up. You'd risk loosing the yellow jersey altogether. Armstrong wasn't happy, but it should be a better race this way.

Feillu--what a way to get a first career win!

I was hoping Hincapie would bridge the gap...no such luck though. Exciting finish though!

is it just me or does it seem like a lot more break aways are sticking this year ?

and the frenchies should be happy, they have three stage wins already
Bbox has done well this Tour. It seems that all of the big teams are saving themselves for the Alps and haven't put much effort into chasing breaks.

It seem like there are alot of mediocre sprint teams this year and they don't have the HP to track down like they have in the past.....next 3 days will be telling though.

It is just stupid mountain stages with 50 miles of flat before the finish. Boring stage layouts if you ask me.

funny you say that. we were having a discussion about the tour on a ride the other day and i was saying that i thought all the "mountain" stages should have mountain top finishes. if they have to shorten the stage that would be fine by me. one would think there would be a lot more attacks if there isnt 50 miles of flat like you are saying for the peleton to reel you back in

Stages like that give other teams (nonSprinting, nonContending) a chance to
shine.....is done by design...

But 50 miles of flat is a bit extreme...i like seeing who is going to be a "Hero for the day" though.

It is rare anymore for any of the GC guys to actually win a mountaintop finish, it is usually a breakaway or some climbing freak. Look at filleu and the dude in yellow.

True....but gotta give guys who aren't pure high apline climbers a shot too. Gotta spread exposure to all types of talented riders...

I think that they are trying to make the tour "HARD", but not give anyone a chance to get huge time gaps until the Alps. Seems like they are setting things up for a HUGE battle on the 2nd to last day.

My hope is that although AC was great in the Pyr, he wears down over the first two(almost three) weeks and LA smokes him in the alps.

Did Felt build some sort of crash sequence into their bikes today??? Poor North American riders, or Ryders, if you will. :D

What ever dope Vandevelde is on seems to have compromised his balance this year. :(

for some reason Ryder did some type of front half gainer over the bars. looked like he touched wheels with the guy in front of him but he went down really funny. one foot off the pedal, hopping to keep balance then over the bars. i thought he may have had the front brake locked and couldn't let go. pretty funny to watch tho.

bad news for Astana, Levi out with a broken wrist. sucks for Levi, always thought he seemed like a nice guy but to me he never seemed to be aggressive enough to win a tour ( not that he would have the opportunity to this year)

Man, when I heard this on Versus, I was really bummed. He is a nice guy and while I didn't think he would win, a top 5 was certainly possible.

I agree - this week = lame.
So, what exactly were you guys expecting? That a GC rider would attack on a stage full of rolling hills and whatnot with Verbier looming on Sunday? Also, isn't bike racing exciting even if the GC picture isn't shuffled?

I was hoping they would. Vino would have.

Everying one is racing not to loose, of course 169 of them will. Marty-ball TDF style.

i think they get into the Alps on Sunday (?) . hopefully the attacks will start coming fast and furious then.

on a side note, thor got over the climbs nicely today...cavendish, not so much. they said cav stopped and the podium staging area when he rolled end some 20+ minutes after the main group came in only to be told he wasnt needed

with stitched up knees and EPO coursing through his veins you are damn right he would have attacked...ATTACK M'FER ATTACK!!!!!!:D
It wasn't EPO though, it was only someone else's blood!

Kash was the EPO guy right? Or was he blood-doping too? Hmm.

Either way, honestly, I want Vino back. He wouldn't have stood for this bull****. I half expected him to be there anyway, attacking for the hell of it.
