Want to guess how many of your tax dollars support them? $1,000 refundable tax credit per kid under 17, and 20 total deductions? If his salary is $100,000, he pays no income tax and we hand him a check from the government every year for $12,620. If he pays $1,000/month in mortgage interest, we cut him a check for $12,980.
Anyone want to bet that this guy is always clamoring for "personal responsibility" and "smaller government"????

not sure i follow. if he's in the 25% tax bracket, that means his liability is $25k, which gets reduced by the number of dependents under 17 in the form of tax credits to $10k (assuming no cap on number of kids -- must check on this). this is then further reduced by various deductions, most notably the deductions for ea kid under 17 (i think most, but not all, are). actually, i may have those steps reversed.
so, isn't it the case that you can use tax credits to reduce your liability to 0, but cannot cross into the red? IOW, the only way i see them getting a check is through the mechanism of a refund on what they've already paid. what am i missing?

Tax credit vs "refundable" tax credit. Go to the link I posted, put in all of their information (I think I might've screwed up and listed them as dependents, instead of just all of their kids), and see what you come up with.
i hope they put that $15k as a down payment toward vaginal rejuvenation, or get one of the older daughters vajazzled so she can get hugged up, as per tradition

Of course you must include in your judgemental calculations how much those 18 kids are going to contribute in taxes and spending over their lifetimes. I always find it interesting that otherwise tolerant people get themselves in a tizzy over people who have lots of kids. Is there a magical number of kids that are acceptable? As far as I could see they all looked well looked after and happy. What's the problem?
I must admit however that when they interviewed the three teenage sisters it did cross my mind how many of the three have taken or will take it up the tradesmen's.

They should find a way to combine this family with the cast of the Jersey Shore. Possibly have all the little guidos as babysitters, it would be comedy gold.
Add to the total number of children these tidbits: Mom is 45; the last Duggar addition -- born in December 2009, three months early and at 1 pound, 6 ounces -- began life in a neonatal intensive care unit; and the size of the family and its continued growth are the basis for a reality show.
