Leg, arm, shoulder, warning shot whatever. Just not larynx maybe

Didn't need to kill her. I don't care how dumb she is.

From what I know and saw from videos, that's the only shot fired inside the capital. It would have been very easy to still shoot someone and send the important message he wanted to convey without killing someone.

It's not that difficult a concept.

Only in america is "kill them" such a ubiquitous and accepted response to anything we don't like. It's a little psychotic.

Correct me if I'm wrong but they wouldn't be armed with single shot pistols eh? Not that hard to try "not murder" first.

Not super confident, but I believe that the police are trained to only shoot to kill.

Winging someone not only generates larger lawsuits, but it leaves a witness.

The article I read today said she was shot in the left shoulder and that she succumbed to the injury. What's in the left shoulder that kills people?

the adam's apple

You want me to go find the video? One of the orginal ones I saw at the time had blood coming out of her neck as she immediately collapsed and was just as immediately gurgling blood.

I mean it's a shitty cell phone cam but it looked like that from two different angles

Regardless, shooting to wound is unreasonable and you know that.
No I don't. That gun has a clip and it's really easy to fire a second time if the point isn't made. The point is to stop people from rushing the door, not kill people.

But you've helped prove my point that killing is the default response to threat. That guy's job is to protect congress (which he did to a degree), not kill.

All I said was that I would have preferred that not be the case. I still do and I always have and always will.

I know 'shoulder' is the current take but from two days after

An officer on the other side, who was wearing a suit and a surgical mask, immediately shot Babbitt in the neck. She fell to the floor.

I left it as a thumbnail, click if you wish. What shoulder tube goes immediately to the mouth?

I've seen a lot of movies and know for a fact that getting shot in the shoulder doesn't kill you. If you're the main character it actually makes you stronger. If you're a black sidekick, you're the first one dead of course, no matter where you get shot.

Babbitt's biggest issue wasn't q-anon as much as the fact that she was just in a supporting role. Apparently. Problem is, I guess in real life you don't know your place in the hierarchy until you get shot. Fortunately in the US you probably have good odds of finding out.

Calling it a “default response to a threat” shortcuts and ignores everything that happened in the escalation process. Dude probably didn’t come off a coffee break, look around, say “what’s all this then?” and start pulling the trigger. If a situation has escalated to the point that a firearm is drawn then that’s the sign that deadly force was in play. If this officer accelerated the escalation then that’s certainly a matter to be investigated. There’s no issue about where the shot was aimed.

I'm not calling "gun out" the default response to the threat, because it wasn't. The dude is sitting there for like two minutes telling the patriots to stop what they're doing. And then another 20 seconds with his gun out saying he's going to shoot if they come through the window after they break out all the glass.

It's literally just the aim and the first shot I'm talking about. And yes he could have shot somewhere else and gotten the same result. As soon as he shot, the crowd backs off and the cop gets to escort whomever he was guarding in that doorway somewhere else. He could have done that shooting a different body part or just shooting through the door, above below the important bits.

And if not, new makeup time. He wasn't the only one there with a gun and that wasn't his only bullet.

Watch the video I just posted. It didn't have to be in the chest or wherever she actually got shot.

Reciting 'how cops are trained' doesn't change the fact that maybe their training could be different to get the same result.

I'm a fucking loser who knew there was at least going to be an attempt to storm the capitol that day. I'm starting to think I'm the only one who's watched as much footage of that event as I have... Most of those tools were there for instagram parler vids. Reality could have come from that first bullet in many other forms. At least for the first important 10-30 seconds, where it landed really didn't seem to matter. They heard gunshot and all jumped back.

There is a vague area where shoulder and neck can be used interchangeably. Sounds like she got shot in the neck. The video definitely shows her being put down hard immediately.

Yeah. As the lone shooter in that situation, his choice stands out. I’m not saying I support or condemn it. I’ve seen some media coverage so I can make some educated guesses, but I don’t know all the details.

Could things be done differently? Sure. There could be rubber bullets or bean bags in the first rounds a weapon fires. But expecting anything other than a center-mass target is unreasonable. Reciting “how cops could trick shoot like in the movies” doesn’t make that likely to happen either.

He's like 3 feet away, not much trickery needed.

I'm not shedding a tear for Qderp there, I promise. Giver another year in magaderp and she'd likely be hanging minorities in trees with her brofriend. But I still and will always have the stance that if you're a cop with a gun drawn and someone is right in front of you, especially with a door still in their way shooting to kill is not the mandatory first and only option. That approach has also gotten a lot of innocent people killed for zero reason just because of a perceived threat. I give that dude a lot of credit for handling himself WAY better than the thousands of trigger happy douchebags driving around in patrol cars these days.

I like the idea of a rubber first bullet but then again we can't even get 25 year vet cops to differentiate between "right/left" black/yellow, heavy/light", getting them to count seems a little ambitious.

Also, handguns are way too inaccurate for “winging”. Sure, on TV people do all the time, but the real effective range is quite small and much less under real stress. It seems like at 10 feet you “couldn’t miss”, but oh so slight changing of the barrel angle and it’s effectively miles off. That’s why everyone is trained to shoot center mass.
