Maybe this pisses me off a little extra because I know the parents of the soldier that the funeral is for. But I can't beleive there are assholes that would pull something this lame. I hope they piss off the biker gang and get a serious beatdown.

---------------------------

(Rochester, N.Y.)-- Members of the Westboro Baptist Church, based in Topeka, KS, plan to picket outside the funeral of Army 1st Lt. James Lyons of Brighton. The Kansas-based church frequently travels the country to protest at the funerals of soldiers, claiming that war deaths are divine retribution for America's embrace of homosexuality.

Abigail Phelps, daughter of Westboro founder Rev. Fred Phelps, tells 13WHAM News that 10 to 15 church members will picket outside Lyons' funeral at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Brighton at 12:15PM tomorrow.

Westboro's website has posted a statement announcing the church's intentions to protest at Lyons' service, "God Himself Has Now Become America's Terrorist, Killing and Maiming American Troops in Strange Lands for Fag Sins."

A spokesperson for the Lyons family says the soldier's parents have been "forewarned" about the protests. Members of the Brighton Fire Department plan to attend the funeral and form a line in their dress uniforms to shield mourners from the picketers.

A group of motorcyclists called Patriot Guard Riders often travels to the same funerals as the Westboro protestors to provide support to the soldier's family. A report on the Patriot Guard Riders website says the bikers will be attending 1st Lt. Lyons' service in Brighton.

On one hand I'm tempted to go down there and f*ck with them, but on the other hand I don't want to distract the funeral any more than these sh!twads already will. But then again, if they are already going to be causing a problem at the funeral, me throwing dog feces at them probably won't make things much worse.

Wow. They have a 7 page thread on that site of people coming to shield. It's gonna be a beautiful day, perfect time to take a bike ride down to Brighton and hang with some Harley dudes.

Ballard 4 life.
(*note: read with caution, this is blatantly religious) We had a great discussion about this group in one of my theology classes last spring. OldManGFunk, this is for you: There are a couple verses in the Bible (Matthew 3 and Mark 12) that describe the Unforgivable Sin, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. This is following an exorcism performed by Jesus, when the Pharisees claim that it is the devil throwing out the evil spirit in an effort to turn the people against Jesus. In response, Jesus says that a house cannot be divided against itself, or it will fail. He continues to say that those who are confusing the work of Holy Spirit with the work of the Devil cannot be forgiven (i.e., blasphemy against the Holy Spirit). The Westboro Baptist Church was the best modern example that we could find; they have confused the work of the Devil and the Holy Spirit to the point that there is no reasoning with them... they are a lost cause. Note that this doesn't mean I don't think we (Christian, or even anyone for that matter) should love them with all we have... you can't fight fire with fire. When we throw rocks at them, or try to beat the crap out of them (
), however hilarious that may be, they are going to take that as persecution, and to a church like that, being persecuted only means that they will think they are doing things right.

The whole group is definitely a bunch of psychopaths. I heard they were also planning to protest the funerals for the Amish school girls who were killed earlier this week. Apparently, for the same reason—it is God’s punishment for America “embracing homosexuality.”

OK I'm basically a peaceful person. But I seriously hope I don't see that bitch tomorrow.

a "poptarts hate freedom" sign would also go along well with it.
That phrase is copyrighted and licensed to Reflux. You'll be paying outrageous royalty fees to use it.

On topic, that Phelps guy and his clan need to go away. I am very much against this war, and this regime, but protesting at a soldiers funeral? That's low. I just can't fathom doing something like that. I hope the bikers beat them up good.

How do you know they are confusing the work of the Holy Spirit with the work of the Devil?

OMGF we get it already. You don't believe in Christianity, Christ or any other religion. You think its all bad and make it perfectly clear of your stance. Its painfully obvious. Just let it go for once. JUST ONCE.
Quit crying. He specifically addressed me. I asked a question. Get over yourself.
