Things to do in Monterey, Reno, and Tahoe???

The wife and I are going on vacation in a week to the west coast and just wondering if anyone had any suggestions of places we should check out while we're there.

We'll be in Monterey CA for 3-4 days.

Gonna be in Reno NV for one day to go to a punk show (Street Dogs and Devil's Brigade).

Also we'll be in Tahoe for a few days of skiing.


So... are there any breweries we should be checking out or any other sights we should be seeing while we are in those cities???


(The wife is preg but she is still likes going to breweries and other places like that.)

Monterey-- If you like pizza, you'll love Pizza My Heart. It's off Munras, and is worth the visit. The aquarium and Cannery Row, as well as a little jaunt to Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Reno-- If you like old antique cars, check out the National Auto Museum. That guy, Bill Harrah, has/had one fine collection.

Virginia City-- heck, if you're going to Tahoe, take the detour up Gieger Grade to visit where the Comstoc Lode was discovered. Stop in and see the suicide table.

Tahoe-- Whether or not you like gambling, stop in at Harrah's/Harvey's. Depending on when you're there, I'll be working in the pit area and might be able to spare a "hello, fellow monkey" to you......

I'm pretty sure the aquarium and cannery row in Monterey are on the list.

I know we'll be skiing during the day in Tahoe but not sure what to do at night. We'll also be looking for a decent pub since we're gonna be there for St Pattys day.

McP's Irish Pub is just down the road from the casinos. That may fit the bill. Also, if you drive around the lake, Emerald Bay, Fanny Bridge (in Tahoe City), and Cal-Neva Lodge/Casino in Carnelian Bay (their pool sits on the CA/NV borders), as well as driving on Lakeshore Dr. through Incline Village are worth the effort (what some people do with their money for their houses)......

I'd suggest a trip to Garwoods if you get a moment. Its up at the lake.

We're all staying at the Resort at Squaw Creek while visiting Lake Tahoe. Are any of those places mentioned near by?

In the valley LeChamois/the Loft is the local apres spot. Hit Plump Jacks for a bar with better food. Mamasake has good sushi.

If you are around on a Wednesday hit up Sunnyside (~ 20 min from Squaw) for fish taco night. Even as a poor ski bum I could afford delicious fish tacos.

In Reno you have casinos, hookers and drugs.

If you have time while in Monterey you can make a trip up to Santa Cruz and do the boardwalk. Aptos is in the middle of the two so you can scope out the famous post office dirt jumps.

Monterey: Aquarium for sure. 17 Mile drive in pebble beach, Mission in carmel if you're into that sort of thing. Out doors type stuff- hit up Big Sur: Garrapata, Andrew Molera and Julia Pfeiffer Burns state parks. They are pretty nice.

If it's sunny- rent cruisers and ride the bike path. For all kinds of awesome beers, ride your bike to Post No Bills Craft Beer House (warning: hipsters) in Sand City.

Good food:

Seafood- go to Phil's fish market in Moss Landing. Trust me.

Bad ass sushi: Crystal Fish off of Lighthouse Ave.

Mexican: Michael's Grill and Taqueria (one in pacfic grove, marina and salinas)

Bling $$$:Sardine Factory just up from canary row. They also have the worlds best lounge pianist who can turn ANYTHING into a lounge song.

Biggest sandwhich you've ever had in your life: Compagno's market and deli up the hill towards Pacific Grove.

You don't remember but we tried to hook up last year when I was in Tahoe. I'll be there again March 20th-24th at the Harveys (they love my money again.) I'll be the high roller on the craps table after 10pm each night. I OWN TAHOE CRAPS! :)

McP's Irish Pub - Is cool. One night i was talking to a guitar player and he ended up being the friend of the guy my buddy worked for in college (Huntsville Texas.) The story on how we discovered this is pretty crazy and should only be told in person.

Well, T, since I work days, you best be trying to stop in before 10pm. I should be working Tue/Wed/Sat. Maybe a little "making the monkey proud" will clue me in on which one you are on the craps table.......

Since we're gonna be in the Tahoe area for the weekend of the 16-18th we were wondering if there is a St Pattys Day parade in Tahoe on the 17th? Or any other special festivities that are worth checking out?

I'll drop you a pm when I get there. I'm actuallly taking the train from Houston to La, La to San Fran and then San Fran to Reno. Should be there late on the 19th if everything goes right.
