Did he? That's good. I heard he slipped on the victory dias and became the first man to recieve the trophy internally.

way to set up a finish line...nice and slippy like...

They should have put in a 6 foot gap you need to jump over to get to the finish line... or better yet, cover it with branches and leaves and just let runners fall into it.

CHICAGO (AP) -Chicago Marathon winner Robert Cheruiyot is expected to fully recover after falling and hitting his head at the finish line, but doctors advised him to not run for one to three months.

The 28-year-old Kenyan sustained a mild concussion, with some bleeding inside his skull, Dr. Wesley Yapor, a Northwestern Memorial Hospital neurosurgeon, said at a news conference Monday.

He added there was less blood on the surface of the brain in each of three successive CT scans. Cheruiyot also had a bruise to his scalp on the back of his head.

Another MRI was to be taken later Monday, followed by another CT scan Tuesday. After that, it is believed Cheruiyot will be released.

Cheruiyot also won this year's Boston Marathon. His agent, Federico Rosa, said that after a race Cheruiyot usually trains lightly for about a month. The next major race he planned to enter was the 2007 Boston Marathon.

"He has all the time to recover,'' Rosa said.

Rosa added that Cheruiyot still hopes to run in a late-December race in Sao Paulo, Brazil, unless doctors say otherwise.

Rosa again said he wasn't sure what caused Cheruiyot to slip Sunday. There were decals with the marathon's logo at the finish line, which race officials pulled off the ground after Cheruiyot's fall. But Rosa didn't blame the decals, saying they are common at marathons and he's never seen such a fall before.

Instead, he said the ground was wet from rain and perhaps the fall had something to do with Cheruiyot's shoes, or that he simply lost his balance. He called the fall "an unlucky situation.''

Cary Pinkowski, the race's executive director, said officials will study whether the decals played a role and determine if they will be on the finish line again.

Cheruiyot had sprinted away from fellow Kenyan Daniel Njenga when he appeared to lean back about a step before the finish line and the strip of tape stretched across it. Suddenly, he slipped backward and struck the back of his head.

His momentum carried him across the line, and he won the 26-mile-plus race in 2 hours, 7 minutes, 35 seconds.

In the immediate aftermath, Cheruiyot had no memory of what took place. He asked his coach moments later what happened and whether he'd won.

On Monday, though, Rosa said: "He remembers everything now.''

I heard on the news that there's a guy running a marathon a day for 50 days. People are running with him and doing it not for himself, but to encourage people to see him and get off their butts and exercise. His theory is that if people see this guy running so much, that a walk around the block will look small and easy for them to do.

I think that I'll go for a marathon right now. I'm feeling inspired.

That would be a Mr. Dean Karnazes. He's crazy.

I also know a guy who is running 52 marathons this year. His name is Dane Rauschenberg, and he is doing it to raise money.

I will actually be running in the same race with both of them, but will seriously be trailing behind them.

I will be running in the Marine Corps Marathon this Sunday.

:bonk:

yeah, I know.... I'm dumb.

I'll let y'all know how much it hurts after.

Good luck.

I'm trying to get back into running. Did 20 minutes last Tuesday and my legs hurt for 4 days. I'll be giving it a go again today.

yeah i heard about that guy....evidently he's got lance armstrongs trainer, training him....he prepared for it by training for ultramarathons which can be anything from 50-100 miles long....so that way a 26.2 mile marathon would seem like it's nothing

I've done a road ride through part of Death Valley in the late Winter/early Spring, and I've got to tell you that it can be beautiful in places. Noted however, that our weather was slightly more tolerable than that in mid July.

The Furnace Creek 508 is equally loco, especially for the solo riders.

Dean Karnazes runs 72 miles just to get to a marathon.

He has also run 350 miles.

He eats whole cheesecakes and pizzas on his long runs..........

Other people have run 1,000 miles.

It's amazing what one can do... and a lot of us don't think we can run 2 miles.

Westy, you're near me, yeah? DC area?

I wish I was capable of eating a whole cheesecake on a long ride.

I'm outside Charlottesville.

maybe you can find a hash group.....
it's a really fun run, and you're with a group of people.
Makes it a lot easier.
Running with other people definately is more fun. Actually my favorite place to run right now is the stupid little track at the gym because there are always other people there.

There is a local hash group. I ran into a guy marking out an offroad course while building trails one day. My problem is I just don't run in the summer when riding conditions are good. By the time I get the joints and tendons up to what my cardio can handle it is time to get back on the bike.

Good luck this weekend, go kick some ass!:happydance:

I haven't watched this, but we were at a 24 hour race and you had to walk to the station. It was hilarious how many people were scared to lose seconds and would bust their ass on dismounts. hahaha
