"I don't even know how long it's going to take to shut it down," said Tom Williams, BP's senior tax and royalty counsel.
Stuff like that always cracks me up - I'm sure BP's tax lawyer really has a good handle on oil field operations.

N8 is right, it's up to $76 a barrel already because of this. Lame. Way to go with that addiction!

SWEET! c'mon $4!!!! :oink:

btw, I have to love the poll foxnews.com - this field was shut down due to corroded lines found after a 270,000 gallon oil spill, and people think it is cause to open more of ANWAR to drilling... :dead:

wonder how many of those 50% who believe that WMD were found in Iraq are foxnews watchers. :oink:

bp makes 33billion dollars in profit last year.

and we have to pay additional cost to cover the cost of THEM doing buisness.

i think the next time i put a bid in on a job.
i'll give the customer the price. and if they accept it.
then i'll give them an additional bill for me actually doing the work.

i'm sure that'll fly.

Whenever I talk to someone about a side job, I always say it'll cost a million bucks....one day, someone will pay it.... one day...

Hmm...maybe I'm lowballing it too much...I'm changing my bid from today forward to 1 billion bucks. One day! Mark my words!

Everyone gets so up in arms about the oil industry making money... they are not as bad as others out there.

What happens when you get car insurance, and get into accident - your premium goes up.

Prescription drugs profits are higher (based on profits/revenue).

Here are some figures for ya (taken from CNN Money/ Forbes)

Merk - 21.04% profit
J&J - 20.61% profit
Pfizer - 15.74% profit
Exxon - 10.62% profit
Chevron - 7.44% profit

The companies pushing medical treatments (never a cure) earn a higher percentage off of you than the oil industry. Just because we are addicted to oil and can't find another solution is not the industries fault.

like i've stated in other threads.

if i controled the woodworking industry from the planting of the tree every step of the way to the finished/installed product.
i could easily live off of 10.62% profit margin.

don't you believe for a second that the oil co's don't make that "small percentage " every step along the way.
10.62%+
10.62%+
10.62%+
10.62%+
10.62%+
10.62%+
10.62%+
and so on and so on.

it didn't cost bp oil 90% of 33billion dollars to make a lousy few percent profit.

Values were total reported earning... yeah they probably hide things here and there - but so do the Rx compnaies.

And I would love to see where/how they are earning 74%... where are those numbers from?
