My old Kowa forks could go from 200 or 160 to about 40mm just by turning the knob.
But with the bushing being as loose as they were from new you effectively had 0mm travel 95% of the time.
I don't think I have ever had such a shit Japanese product as Kowa forks, I really hope they went broke, they deserved to.

The friction anti bottoming system was the best part, the stanchion ground its way up a taper on the air spring to stop you bottoming violently. Why did I buy two Kowa forks?
The vintage DH community wank themselves over a Kowa fork.

can someone translate this for me?
(english)
I'm not sure what language that is, it's no Sco--ish because there's a 't' and the end and Scott's don't bother with them unless they are at the start of a word.

I will say that I do like how the Scott's pronounce words that spell similarly to sound similar, wish we did that.

I actually do pronounce "T"s
You have no clue how many different accents we have here. We have 12 main regions each with it's own generic accent but each region is also filled with many localised accents which change by area and status. You can almost tell the street some Scots are from just by how they speak and the words they use. Nevermind town/region.

The SNP politician in the video has an East of Glasgow accent, nothing like mine or @konastab01 s

That's a polite east end accent if ive ever heard one, that's a glasgow uni west one if ive ever heard it. If your struggling to understand him, you'd absolutely 1000 percent not understand me hahahaha

East of Glasgow. Not East End of Glasgow.

I've lived in the east end, west end, city centre and Partick at various points. and hung about All the Unis far too much for someone who wasn't ever a student at any of them.
Most weegies understand me perfectly... but I still get the occasional "hate" from some of them for nothing more than my accent.

You can tell them I cut a 200si and a 160 up and sent them to the recyclers, they were pieces of shit!
I think the compression damping was done with a single shim and a wave washer, maybe there was a bit more to it but it was beyond basic.
I guess they did have Kashima coatings and hybrid air/coil springs earlier than most. Kowa also did their own version of predictive steering, but it was unprodictive steering because mid trail your bar would be pointing in a different direction to the CSU. I will say that they were consistent, that happened with three CSU's in a row, with two different crown designs, then they roll pinned the last one.

Take a look at the retrovelo forums. There are people paying batshit crazy money for XX century stuff.
The peak time for selling was during the pandemic, people including myself were spending stupid money on stuff that rreally wasnt worth it. Its kinda started to return to normal now.

I don't know when this became a thing. Is it just for the handlebar and frame mounted accessory weirdos?

It became a thing with nico V and sam hill riding some of the spain and portugal endurpo rounds like 8 years ago.

I'll be honest, I live in a similar climate with similar hearty bushes that tear your hands apart on trails that don't stay open unless I do it. There are certain trails around here I made sure to have thick gloves on before descending.

I almost put them on my trail bike several times. It's not the PNW canopy, more like the chapparal woody pokey shit that grows in the sun. That shit takes skin off knuckles at 25mph

and as a surprise to no one, moto versions are less than a third of the price

You should try riding a trail through PNW clearcut. All that benign happy moss and ferns are replaced by plants imported directly from hell. But even then it is my shoulders and shins that take all the damage. Perhaps I need 840mm bars.

Yeah so those come from the seeds on sprinter vans from here.

I've ridden through hundreds of miles of PNW powerline easements and clearcuts. It's nasty but not quite the same...anatomy locations like you say.

I'm 5'8", you should know I never rode a bike with 840mm bars in my life.

If you don't know, you don't know. But I've literally broken a finger on that shit.

dammit westy. you've been gone from fine east coast back country rhodo corridors for too long. there are many times when i've wished for full forearm guards when i emerge from a ride looking like i was fighting off feral cats. and other fun times when cutting a corner close and thinking i was brushing past small tender leaves was actually new growth covering up a 1" thick recently pruned limb. chicks dig scars, right?

Oh, like Pepperage Farms, I remember. I also remember that when I am getting whipped with vegetation I am also getting absolutely covered in ticks and some scratched up hands is the least of my worries.

I'll say the worst is when the trail is so narrow with overgrown brush (because no one rides it, but that can actually be a good sign) but the brush smacks your front brake lever so hard....out the front door you go. Then the fun ends and hopefully you are ok. Ah. Good times :)

Funny, I was just reading about this somewhere.

It sounds like you're bike needs a higher pivot and a floating brake with anti-squat or something like that.

Heh... I was just riding with a guy last weekend who had some of those handguards. I inwardly rolled my eyes at them in the parking lot, but then on the first descent, there were multiple spots where there were bushes hanging into the trail, jerking on the left side of my bar. When I caught up to him, the first thing I said was, "Well now I know why you've got the handguards."

*cries in wait-a-while*

Lantana (a weed here) is more common, and just as gnarly but wait-a-while will nearly deglove a hand if you're not careful. I've got decent scars from getting little vines or tendrils snagged and then pulled through my fingers before I could stop.

I still haven't gotten brushguards or anything yet, but when I switched from Hopes to Dominions I noticed the brakes engaging the first few times I went too inside and dragged a bar end through a fern or bush.
