Why don't parts actually come with meaningful instructions anymore?

Instead there's a generic useless sheet of nothing useful.

Putting a new drivetrain on one of my bikes last night and I need to head to the manufacturer website to find out what the b-screw cassette/jockey wheel gap needs to be, plus is it 2 or 4 extra links of chain this week...
Yup, I just got a full XO drivetrain for my new build.
Not only did the bastards not include anything in the way of instructions, but the DUB BSA BB has a notch pattern that does not match my current wrench. So now I need another 45.00 wrench...one Park BBT-79 is on its way (I really didn't want Park, but it was the cheapest and quickest to get here - at least it ain't blue)

2 for 1 in this post.

https://www.pinkbike.com/news/sick-bicycle-co-there-are-so-many-people-that-couldnt-wait-to-see-us-fail.html

1:
no one should give these wankers a 2nd chance, it also makes it more difficult for companies that take pre-orders for frames to get customers to pre order, so they can then and go order bikes.

(I do have grumbles about pre-ordering as well, but I do understand why / how it helps small bike manufactures.)

2: PB for giving those idiots a platform to spew BS apologies on, and by interviewing them, giving them some form of legitimacy.

wrong with the industry but good with the market- everybody is calling out pinkbike in the comments for being turds and pointing instead to other forum posts and articles about alternative points of view. Pinkbike as a whole is pretty much what's wrong with the industry.

It's rad to hear people call out the article's terrible tone and rambling nature.

i did remember seeing an interview or something with Frank, who mentioned he thought their bikes were cool, which is how they came onto my radar, but that was about it.

I gotta disagree on this point. Light is the best sanitizer for stupidity. By giving them a platform they highlighted just what a couple of fuckwads they are. PB is still one of the largest MTB sites on the international internet, now this interview will be at the top of the search results, do you think anybody is going to rush out and give them a deposit after reading it? It does nothing to legitimize them.

True, that is a good counterpoint, between the PB article, and the one on singletracks, when someone gets bit in the future by them, it would not have happened due to poor research.

That Sick company is shit... but there is a long history of this kind of BS in the MTB industry... crankbros, Evil bikes, etc.

Any sort of press in 2019 needs to chase clicks and controversy to stay solvent though, so you really can't fault Pinkbike too much for feeding (making money from) the drama.

Jordan: And the only other problem that we've had is that for some reason, some carbon cranks are so thick that they don't clear the chainstay. When you go look online, we're not the only frame manufacturer that has trouble with extra thick cranks not clearing. You can't really have it all. You can't have a tucked rear wheel and a 73 mil threaded bottom bracket and a three-inch tire.

I kind of want to order a frame just to harass these idiots. This would be like me just deciding I was going to manufacture airplanes in light of the recent bad press for Boeing. You know, I think there's a niche there. I'm just going to make airplanes. I mean why not? What could go wrong?

random: was checking out site traffic stats, & PB is the #1 ranked bike site (all disciplines included) on the planet. it's a behemoth.

**just looking at the sick bikes shit show thread - there's 420 comments. i've never seen that kind of reader engagement on any outdoor / sports / lifestyle site. it's impressive. and no surprise that they pen articles like this. it's good business.

Ya, farm country Canada.
Checked with two "local" Bike shops - nope, but we can order it for you.
Checked with the "local" MEC - nope, but it is in the catalogue, so you can have it delivered to home, or store.
Checked with Amazon, and it was 25 bucks more than MEC which was 10.00 cheaper than the bike shops, so 43.50 later, I have one Park socket type on its way....

If I had realized that the splines were different than my wrench, I would have had the BB installed when I dragged the frame into town to have the headset pressed in.

Fuckers.

Agreed. Was vaguely interested in some of their bikes, now after reading that article where they try to pass the blame for a bunch of totally foreseeable business hurdles, and about how much of douches they were to people complaining, I am happy to never do business with them.

It reads like the manifesto of a mental patient. Except its two mental patients.

This article was published half an hour before Pinkbike did theirs. Isolated it is better, and together they give a telling picture of what kind of people those two are.

Waaaaaaaaayyy6yyy to long of a story for a shitty business. It took almost as long to read as some people have been waiting for a frame.

Too bad these journalists/riders don't put that much time and honesty into product reviews.

Have you seen that stupid frenchie who almost hit a group of students while throwing it down some stairs at PB? The comments are golden, especially Waki's. Once the general mood turned into exposing the guys who made the video as the douchebags they are, he started defending his position as general "opinionist".

Haven't even read the article as I got disgusted seeing the headline. I don't know whose quote this is, but I live by "Freedom comes with responsibility". I would like to have freedom to huck off stairs, but not at the expense of well-beings/rights of others. Idiots like him are the ones who take freedom away from the rest of us. What is wrong with the universe, not just this industry.

I wonder if MTBR killed themselves by charging for ads. Back in the day (like 2002) everybody was on MTBR. Then they started charging for ads and everybody posted bike shit on pinkbike. I wasn't 12 so I didn't hang out on the forums, but I bought and sold a ton of crap.

Actually, I think it was a sandwich. MTBR didn’t charge for ads, then did so, and then (and now) does not.
Bought my first dh bike on mtbr in 2001... everything else after that was RM, hcor or Pinkbike.
