Gwin broke an crank arm at Bootleg canyon in Nevada not that long ago. Don't recall if it was an E13 crankset.

I generally like Gwin and I feel bad for his injury, but I agree with you guys, blaming his long-time friend/mechanic like that publicly is weak.

What are 3-year old carbon cranks that have had explicit instructions that they should not be used doing anywhere near a 2019 race bike? Likely story folks. How dumb do you think we are?

Yeah totally. Even if it was something like his mechanic not tightening the crank bolts correctly, you have that conversation behind closed doors. Don't toss a member of your own team under the bus.

And yeah why would cranks that are years old even be laying around or make it to a race? If they are known to be bad, wouldn't e-thirteen want them back to avoid this exact situation? Better yet, I assume the graphics on the cranks would look old and not current. Does Gwin just grab his bike without looking what is on it?

How dare an MTB news site cover the biggest star in MTB! Fuck you Vital, Where's my pitchfork?

Gwin, if you need help writing your broken part excuses, let me know. Here's one you can use for free, "It was a pre-production prototype, trying a new super light set-up, guess we went too light, LOLz, E.Thirteen, always pushing the limit, love working with these guys, see you at Ft William (with production cranks, haha)" See, I'm way better at it than you. You can pay me in Red Bull and T-shirts.

if i was gwin's mechanic i'd be drafting my resignation letter of intent and looking for a new gig. i honestly thought gwin was more professional than to throw someone under the bus like that. :stosh:

plus, i mean, holyshitballs you can blame the cranks without tossing your mechanic under the bus. ITS FUCKING EASY. "somehow an old pair of cranks made their way onto my race bike." that's it. boom.

Or even "hey guys, I smashed a rock hard straight on earlier in the run. Then it just gave way under that harsh landing. Yeah mannnn, I'm bummed. But whatever, feeling good about the setup so we will be back at Fort Billiam. Stoked etc".
