Hopefully in a pine box. Court-martial him in theater and sentence to death. Don't permit a plea bargain. Wonder how expedient they could make it.

Too bad some choice Taliban cellmates are likely not an option, but I bet his detention could make Nerdly Manning McWikileak's conditions look like a Disney holiday.

Does this surprise anybody that this would happen eventually?
Seriously. It actually surprises me that its taken this long. A guy on his 4th tour, with TBI, and probably a good healthy case of PTSD is mentally unstable? How long has this been going on!? It's unconscionable what we are asking of these guys, to do tour after tour after tour and then provide little to no mental support/counseling. Take a look at crime rates in towns with military bases. Domestic violence, rapes, assaults, murders, etc. etc. are through the roof in these towns. These guys are coming back or still serving with horrific mental issues and they are being glossed over. The shooter in this case was given an all clear to return to duty and its happening a lot, because they need bodies on the front. I'm pretty sure were just beginning to see the sort of issues that are going to plague the veterans of the near future.

total shocker, an unpopular war, and the military is scraping the bottom of the barrel for troops.

Feel sorry for these dudes who buy into the military mindset, then find they are turned into monsters. It's just a job. A really ****ty job at that.

I don't think its about scraping the bottom, per se. Chances are this guy, and most of the others involved in stuff we talk about here (Kill teams, body pee-ers, spouse abusers, etc) are all (were) decent people, but its naive to think that you can subject any one to those kinds of stresses time and time and time and time again and not expect their minds to come back a little askew. It ought to be criminal to send someone on a 4th, 5th or 6th tour.

that's kind of my point. they have to resort to doing this because they don't have enough new/qualified/mentally stable people who are willing to volunteer.
