Dirt Rag is the best thing going now, but the old Bike was the best. Pictures are one thing, but the articles and editorials were oustanding. Every month I looked forward to Ferrentino's rantings in "The Grimy Handshake" and Rob Story's "Pump."
Unless an advertiser complains, nothing will happen. Magazines don't make their money on subscriptions and newsstand sales. It's all about the advertising.BurlyShirley said:Somebody have an email addy of someone at these mags who we can link this thread to? Seriously. These are the opinions of mountain bikers. I know that mags are facing becoming obselete from the net, maybe they should take the readers' advice.
EDIT: And what would be nice, when someone complains, is for the mag not to say something to defend itself. No amount of defense will make the mag NOT suck. It just needs to change, plain and simple.
Maybe we could organize a boycott of a few specific mags to get the message across to advertisers. Put up big notices on MTBR, RM, all the big ones, and tell everyone to tell their local sites, spread the word. That'd show em.bluebug32 said:Unless an advertiser complains, nothing will happen. blue said:I subscribe to Dirt Rag. They've got lots of good articles, ride reports, and real technical advice. Occasionally the overtly fixie-hipstertastic and self-righteous nature of the mag gets to me (eg, "alt" culture), but it's nowhere near how bad MBA and Mountain Bike are when it comes to grating on my nerves. They both seem to cater to the same golf club swinging idiots that ran down to their LBS and bought a $5000 Trek after Lance won the TDF a couple times.
I like Decline, but Burly's right when he says the layout sucks...the articles are a major PITA to read, but I really like their gravity coverage and their photos.
Where did you hear that?bluebug32 said:Lance's bike supposedly only cost $3500
This idiot bike shop owner we talked to down in Nayak claimed that mountain biking is dead, and that you could buy the same bike that Lance rode for $3500.jdcamb said:Where did you hear that?
The name of the shop wouldn't happen to rhyme with Blowga?robdamanii said:This idiot bike shop owner we talked to down in Nayak claimed that mountain biking is dead, and that you could buy the same bike that Lance rode for $3500.
We left in short order.

There are alot of Trek dealers that have no clue about mountain bikes. For one thing, the biggest "thing" is all mountain/fr bikes, and Trek is still most famous for their OCLV Fuel.robdamanii said:Nope, Toga was quite nice, actually.
This idiot was from Nayack Bicycle or something like that. Right on N. Broadway in the middle of Nayak.
Fixed.sanjuro said:There are alot of Trek designers that have no clue about mountain bikes.
