My old 98 Bomber is looking kind of beat. The aluminum is all oxidized/dirty looking... I tried "Neverdull" and it cleaned it up initially. Anything else I can do to get it looking good. Any procedures for getting it done on the off season (if there is one).

PS: when should I get concerned w/ the sliders failing. Its a DC and I treat it nice. But, I did get it used... No scratches, dents, dings... nothing damage wise. Works pissah.

I'd post a pic. But, everytime I try it RM rejects it as file too large... I've got a Cannon digi. And I shoot it on loww resolution. Still it gets kicked back. Sux cause I've got some good pics.

if it's a polished finish, use Brasso. Then wipe with Pledge dust polish. THat should keep the finish lookin good for awhile.

if it's bare aluminum it'll oxidize pretty quickly no matter what you use to clean it. I believe what you want to do is to go to an auto parts store and look for an aluminum cleaner/sealer of some type. Maybe a wheel shop would be a better place to start but anyway you get the idea, you really want to put some type of protective layer over the bare aluminum unless you want it looking cruddy.

WERD. I hit up the mothers on the crown of the 99 z1 BAM, and it's looking sick. Polished aluminum is great-looking.

Hey what do the etched lines on the sliders mean ?

Do they mark the lowest (bottom) of lower crown ?

I ask because the fork is 6" travel yet tire to lower crown is 7.25 "s when the line is even w/ bottom of lower crown.

Those lines should ALWAYS be above the TOP of the lower crown -- i.e. you are running it waaaay too high. That line is the edge of a machined-out area on the stanchion tube; if you clamp in that area, you're not only squeezing a thinner part of the tube, but you're getting a poor interface with the crown b/c it's designed to fit with the larger diameter part of the stanchion lower down.

Fix that ASAP and don't ride that bike until you do.

OK, glad I asked. I didn't even know those marks were there. Seems odd now though. The sliders are waaay through the top crown. Oh well, its set up right now. Thanks

And good call on the Mothers. Wow !

As soon as I score the adobe photoshop I'll post it.
