Mom pleads guilty to feeding kids beer, cocaine
Mom pleads guilty to feeding kids beer, cocaine - US news - Crime & courts - msnbc.com

BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut — A Connecticut mother has pleaded guilty to charges that she forced her 4-year-old son to drink beer and gave her 10-month-old daughter beer and cocaine.

..The Connecticut Post reports Juliette Dunn, of Bridgeport, pleaded guilty Wednesday to risk of injury to a child under the Alford Doctrine, where the defendant doesn't agree to the facts but agrees the state has enough evidence to win a conviction.

A companion, 33-year-old Lisa Jefferson, pleaded guilty to the same charges.

Police say officers were waved down in June by a neighbor who complained that a woman was feeding children beer at a playground.

The Post reported that at the time of the incident, police had spotted the pair sitting in folding chairs as the children played. Police noted an empty beer bottle near the 4-year-old. Additionally, the Post report said, police said a baby bottle near the child was filled with a beverage believed to contain alcohol.

Citing a warrant in the case, Connecticut NBC station WVIT-TV reported that authorities took both children to a hospital to be tested for drugs and alcohol. The son tested positive for alcohol and the daughter for alcohol and cocaine, WVIT said.

The warrant also stated that Dunn admitted to giving her son a bottle of beer every day, the TV station reported, and that when questioned by a social worker, the child was able to list off brands he liked and ones he didn't.

The children were turned over to the Department of Children and Families after 29-year-old Dunn's arrest. Custody hasn't been decided.

The Post reported that the women could face up to two years each in prison when the judge sentences them in December.

LOL... while the cocaine part is horrible, I'm not so sure about the beer part. Depends on the ABV...
In europe giving kids beer is perfectly acceptable. It is usually low % beer though.

At least that’s what is done in Belgian schools. Here are two recent examples, we found in the magazine of the Belgian “Objectieve Bier Proevers”. Thirteen year old kids on a week long class excursion in the Ardennes were forbidden to drink sodas during all meals by their teachers, concerned as they were with the children’s health. The children had to chose between water and “table beer”, which is a 2 % Alc. by vol. simple beer. The table beer came in two versions: the hoppier blond, and the sweeter brown.
Here are some ‘tasting notes’ of the kids:
* “The blond was more washy than the brown. It’s like willing and not being able to. As with real beer, I prefer the brown beers.” (anonymous)
* “I prefer the brown, because it is sweeter. I drink also Kriek Lambic, and I like that too.” (anonymous)
* “The blond tastes more like a ‘real beer’ (Pilsner), but there is less alcohol. We drink that at home too, or panache’ (beer + lemonade).” (Kjeld)
* “The brown is delicious, and I know that, since, at home, I can drink the rest of the bottle, when my mother cooks stew with beer.” (Conan)
* “You can drink as much as you like without getting drunk. I drink it at home too. I believe that almost everybody drinking beer for the first time, doesn’t like it. It’s like with wine, you need to learn to drink it.” (Jelle)

In the Freinet School in Aalst, the eight and nine year old children had a project about beer. The teacher had invited a home brewer to show them how beer is made. At the end of the presentation, the children went for a bottle of beer at the school bar, and they all tasted a little bit.

Giving her 10 month old blow and beer? Maybe the mother was getting her daughter ready for a life as a child star in hollywood.

Are you drunk ?

I know a lot of recovering alcoholics that got their start that way. Giving any beer, no matter what the abv., to a toddler is really fvcking stupid. Might as well get the kid tattooed and pierced before they're even old enough to use the potty by themselves.

Funniest thing I've EVER seen was watching my friend's (at the time) 2 year old son walk over to the coffee table with his sippy cup, pull the lid off, fill it with Guinness, replace the lid then walk away. We were all in tears laughing so hard.

(And don't worry, his dad took it away from him right away.)
