Crime is higher in black communities. Employment to population is lower as is educational achievement. These are true things. One may quibble with the value judgment inherent in the quote but sometimes these things get lost when viewing the world through rose colored glasses.
(No, I don't know how much of this effect remains after correcting for poverty but that's a whole different elephant there.)
I dont think you can steal/buy a whole people from another country, abuse them for decades as slaves, put them in ghettos and discriminate them still while having them demonised by the media and expect them to fare well.
I think correcting for poverty (not to mention the whole history of these people) is exactly what this whole effect is about and its inseperable from the discussion.
What drump supporters are saying is that black people are inherently more violent/lazy etc then white people.
I say this is exactly what people will behave like if you treat them the way they have been treated.
Counterpoint: Asian people have been treated pretty shittily as well (see Chinese railroad worker massacre, Japanese internment, same discriminatory practices in housing, etc.) yet don't have the same issues largely. It's culture, but how to "fix" or change that?

I have a Korean friend in Germany...his parents emigrated before he was born. He has written a book, "Ohne Fleiß kein Reis - wie ich ein guter Deutscher wurde" ("Without diligence, no rice- how I became a good German") in which he speaks to the feelings of Koreans and other Asians living in Germany and Europe. His experience is not unlike that of American based Asians...struggling to be accepted as a German, when you dont LOOK like one...as a honky of Irish extraction, I cant relate. My only problems ever came from those kids older than me around whom I oculd not keep my mouth shut.
...and this opens another Monkey-thought provoking query...why the fuck are we so scared of those who look different than we do? On the inside, we are biologically the same, only an accident of evolution has turned some of our skin darker than others. Why cant we as the human race, capable of doing such wonders of science and art, literature and technology, accept others who simply look different than we do?

I grew up in NYC. I saw people of many colors in the flesh and realized all people have the opportunity to be assholes. Many people in small towns in the Midwest who never venture outside their home county may have only been exposed to brown people on TV, and with today's stream of garbage on said medium...
