holy shit, I just watched the video.
That cop has to be convicted and sent to rot in jail.

I just dont see what the hell was that guy thinking.
I mean, chocking him with a knee for 30 seconds-1 minute? You could somehow argue thats justified, despite the victim almost always being black.

But a 7 seven minute choke hold, including several minutes after the guy passed out?
wtf was that cop thinking? the handcuffed guy was playing dead?

Protestors Criticized For Looting Businesses Without Forming Private Equity Firm First...

I agree and the root cause is qualified immunity, something the USSC refused to take up earlier this month.

There's no question this was excessive force.
My point is burning down/looting businesses with zero correlation is a bad look and will exacerbate the issue of retail deserts in black communities as a result.

Yes there are peaceful protests.
The bad actors here aren't protesters though, they're opportunists.

As someone around here once said...le sigh.

This sucks, I am shamed to have once worked in law enforcement and saddened and ashamed to be an American today. I cant even look at porn or make a wisecrack about something stupid. Depression checked in, and it aint checking out.

I just dont get it.

The other cops allowing it to happen was equally if not more disturbing.

so apparently the minneapolis police arrested a CNN reporter and camera crew live on air.
Yup arrest the Black reporter, while the White reporter also on the ground covering the event goes about his business unmolested.

Way to dig the hole deeper you bunch of racist fucks.

hindsight is a motherfucker

Maybe, information in that seems suspect. What does "had a chance" mean? Does it mean there was evidence that would stand up/meet court standards? Impossible to tell and that's usually what the prosecutor determines, in terms of "had a chance". There's lots of stuff I "had a chance" for, but ultimately the data didn't meet the standards in the end. Pushing through something that doesn't would be even more corrupt.

Friends house got broke into last night.

Another friend is watching buildings burn from their back yard.

Another friend is standing guard in a store to keep it from being looted.

I live a few miles in the safe area, but Floyd lived in the same city as I do.

Wife is worried, I don't know what to think.

Have seen this floating around a few places. Cops have denied it is him. Anybody have anything that may shed a bit more light on the allegations?

i saw the video. the identify isn't confirmed so i didn't post, but the video absolutely shows the person in the mask and respirator (which is alleged to by the same kind issued to the minneapolis PD) carry a hammer and an umbrella and smashing windows at the autozone. this person was supposedly followed to one of the local precincts as well.

As far as this always carrying gun nut is concerned, if you’re not someone I love you’re on your own.
If you don't see the need to protect yourself I'll respect your choice.

So, I guess big government trampling human rights is OK as long as is to somebody else?

Do you extend that question to the people standing around filming all these abuses but doing nothing?
were they gun-carrying weaver-stancing 2nd ammendment scholars?

If the spirit of the law and the "well regulated militia" is to keep the means of defense against the tyranny of the gvmt in the hands of people and you support the 2nd ammendment in those grounds... well, that was pretty much the best opportunity ever to exercise your 2nd ammendment rights.

Vermont State Police condemns police brutality in death of George Floyd in Minneapolis

WATERBURY, Vt. (Friday, May 29, 2020) — The members of the Vermont State Police and Department of Public Safety Commissioner Michael Schirling unequivocally condemn the actions of police officers in Minneapolis that led to the death of George Floyd.

“What I have seen on video from the mishandled attempt to arrest George Floyd is beyond disturbing,” said Col. Matthew T. Birmingham, director of the Vermont State Police. “This kind of conduct has no place in policing. It goes against everything we are taught from our earliest days in training academies. It goes against our mission to protect and serve the public. It goes against our oath and our badge. It goes against human decency.”

In Vermont, the state police is committed to fair and impartial policing and has developed and implemented a comprehensive program to ensure equitable, just policing practices at all levels of the agency. These efforts include building relationships of trust with communities of color and other minority communities, diversifying our workforce and improving our cultural awareness as the state of Vermont continues to grow more diverse.

The Vermont State Police also trains to de-escalate all potential confrontations, use the least amount of force required when absolutely necessary, and render aid quickly to anyone in medical distress.

Additionally, state police leadership is explicitly clear that no law enforcement officer should ever stand idly by in the face of violence, misconduct or other inappropriate actions from their peers.

“Mr. Floyd’s death is a heartbreaking tragedy. My heart goes out to his family and the Minneapolis community, which is suffering greatly right now,” Gov. Phil Scott said. “I join the Vermont State Police in their condemnation of the officers’ actions, and I appreciate that they’ve called attention to it, as well as their commitment to serving and protecting all Vermonters. I hope to see justice served and that we can move toward healing as a nation.”

The Vermont State Police is in the process of reviewing all policies and training procedures regarding use of force to ensure they are in line with best practices and account for the safety and well-being of the public and of the police.

“The public has every right to expect that the police will treat them with fairness, with respect, with compassion," said Capt. Garry Scott, the Vermont State Police’s director of fair and impartial policing and community affairs. “We have worked for years to forge relationships of trust with all communities we serve. We do this through openness and robust examinations of our data and our practices; by developing and implementing strong training programs to address bias in policing; and by ensuring continual, ongoing, honest communications. The public needs to know we stand with them.”

The members of the Vermont State Police send their deepest condolences the family, loved ones and friends of George Floyd and to people everywhere who are aggrieved by his death.

"I must make two honest confessions to you, my Christian and Jewish brothers. First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.
I had hoped that the white moderate would understand that law and order exist for the purpose of establishing justice and that when they fail in this purpose they become the dangerously structured dams that block the flow of social progress. I had hoped that the white moderate would understand that the present tension in the South is a necessary phase of the transition from an obnoxious negative peace, in which the Negro passively accepted his unjust plight, to a substantive and positive peace, in which all men will respect the dignity and worth of human personality. Actually, we who engage in nonviolent direct action are not the creators of tension. We merely bring to the surface the hidden tension that is already alive. We bring it out in the open, where it can be seen and dealt with. Like a boil that can never be cured so long as it is covered up but must be opened with all its ugliness to the natural medicines of air and light, injustice must be exposed, with all the tension its exposure creates, to the light of human conscience and the air of national opinion before it can be cured."

-Martin Luther King; Letter from a Birmingham Jail
