Looking for input on these. Usually ride agressive XC, fire road up, single track down with some drops thrown in for good measure.

My other thoughts were the Maxxis Highroller SRY 2.3's up front with a Minion SRY 2.3 in the rear...

I have heard that the Octopus rides a little funny as it seems to have a very small contact patch. It tends to ride along the tops of the center knobbies which make it feel very skinny. I know I have had to repair some after the owner rode in K-country, the reason, thorns whent right through and he ended up with 2 slow leaks. UST tires arent the most trail-side repair friendly, but there are better ones out there than the Octopus.

stay away from tubeless, I've just seen too many bad experiences with them (read: walking back to the car park) The sidewalls always seem to be splitting, and they are meant to be more reinforced than regular tires, they sure weigh more ?

other than Hutch make awesome tires IMHO, I ride pythons and Mosquito's and am very happy with the quality etc.

Well, went to the SF Veloswap last weekend and get a good deal on some brand new Maxxis Highrollers and Minions. $20 a pop. Figured I'd pass on the tubeless gig for a while....
