I didn't go to Catholic school, but this story makes me stunningly mad:

DUBLIN – A fiercely debated, nine-year investigation into Ireland's Roman Catholic-run institutions says priests and nuns terrorized thousands of boys and girls in workhouse-style schools for decades — and government inspectors failed to stop the chronic beatings, rapes and humiliation.
The Church is in denial, of course.

Having been raised Catholic, I'm actually not that surprised. It's f@cked up for sure, but Roman Catholics, especially Irish are hardcore and crazy. The sh!t I found out about Father Oli later in life is what first turned me away from religion in general. He was considered a close family friend and taught many of my catechism classes up to 6th grade.

Yeah those were cruel times alright, when a parish priest was considered infallable. He could make your life a living hell.

It is somewhat different nowadays. When I went to second level (high school for you) it was a convent (nun run school). There was only 3 sisters left teaching. One was very nice however the other two were witches. Good thing they were old and had no power (or sticks for that matter)
When they would give out to you, you could see them restraining from they're once trusted method of whacking:bonk:

It's actually funny to see an old witch of a nun giving out to you screaming up at you. Just standing there, towering over her with a big grin thinking; 'Is that all you got woman?':happydance:

However it was not that funny < 30 years ago. The church ran Ireland. They still have a grasp at the moment like keeping issues like msking abortion legal etc, away from our shores.

I could tell you hilarious stories about uncles and neighbours getting beat by teachers....

You know a better way to learn how to be Irish?

Wonder what teh catlick church will do for a quick buck now that the free slave labour option has been removed (in Ireland at least)?

Typically, children at such facilities stopped receiving any formal education by age 12. But they kept generating income for the religious orders through their teens with their mandatory, unpaid labour on farms, in laundries and as domestic cleaners.

Pretty sh*t that they are still hiding pedophiles and child abusers from accountability.

The findings will not be used for criminal prosecutions - in part because the Christian Brothers successfully sued the commission in 2004 to keep the identities of all of its members, dead or alive, unnamed in the report.

No real names, whether of victims or perpetrators, appear in the final document.

Look on the bright side: There are a lot of clergy in Ireland who can really understand and counsel sexual predators who bugger young boys. They've got the knowledge and the experience to do it.

Also, David Cross isn't really funny here, he's accurate:
