the link is for the california thing, the text below is the email from my in law.

Hi All,

I am going to paste in this email a letter written by a Holt parent who
took his kids to 'The House of Horror' here just west of Lansing. This is
completely true, a columnist wrote of it today. I am in complete
shock....feedback?

Take a minute and read this, it is right in our backyards.

It is about the House of Horrors just out of Grand Ledge
All family and friends,

I want to take a moment of your time to give you a warning,
particularly if you have children.
Last night (Friday, Oct. 22nd), I took my family out for an evening
of Halloween fun. We wanted to attend some of the events that were
listed in The Noise newspaper. Our first stop was the House of Horror

out on West Saginaw here in Lansing. It is across from Art Van Furniture.

Their ad in the Noise indicates that children under 11 should be
accompanied by an adult. Other than that, there are no other
warnings or information about the content of the event. Let me
fore-warn you that their age rating is absurd and appalling. If this event
were a
movie, it would be rated NC-17 at best. I strongly urge you after you
read this, to forward it on to all your family and friends to avoid this
event or at least preview it prior to taking any children. It is not a
wholesome Halloween family event, but an in-your-face, deceptive church
"cult"
using very poor judgment in placing their beliefs without warning and
in a very sick way.

When we arrived, we waited our turn in line. During that time, one
of the workers came up to the door man and said that an irate mother
with children was yelling pretty loudly about the whole event and that he
should warn families with children about the content. So he turned to us
and
said, "There is some pretty vivid, scary stuff in there." Since our
girls love scary movies and to be spooked, we didn't think much of this.
Besides, we didn't think that any organization would stoop so low as to
provide children the opportunity to see what we witnessed.

We paid our $24.00 and were led by two "workers" though the dark.
They told us to follow their voices. We were running into walls and
other people. We were led to a room and when the lights came on, we were
watching two teenagers making out on a sofa. Although they were
dressed, the guy on top of the girl was doing some EXTREME touching of
this girl, including her breasts and other areas. Concerned a bit, I waited
for the ax murderer or something to come jumping out and kill them.
Instead, I saw a short display about date rape.

Then the lights went out and we were led to another room in complete
darkness. When the lights came up here, we were in a doctor's
office. This teenage girl in the stirrups was having an abortion performed
on
her. As the bloody tube filled the jar, the doctor told the nurse to
remove the "tissue". She slopped three pieces of meat into a pan. The
girl having the abortion was screaming and saying how she made such a big
mistake.

We watched everything from Satan saying "Got 'em" after a gay
marriage to a Teenager hanging himself after other kid's were calling
him names. We saw a guy taking cocaine, then beating on his girlfriend.
One of
the worst "scenes" was a older biker guy talking to a teenager. He said,
"I've supplied you with drugs and alcohol for a long time, so now you
owe
me something." The teenager got down on his hands and knees and the
biker approached him from the rear unzipping his pants.

The final room was the minister of Mt. Hope Church inviting us to
their Sunday events.

It was painfully clear why the exit to this event was completely
around the back of the building away from those entering!!!!!

Now regardless of anyone's views or opinions about any issue this
group addresses, the very fact that families are not warned of the
content and topics discussed as well as the very graphic ways they
illustrated
those point is one I never thought a church would resort to. Satan
works through deception and this church has sunk to his level, no doubt.
It
is not this church's right to blind-side the unexpecting public with
"crap"
like this. Much more, these are topics that deserve to be taught to our
children
at the appropriate age and in the appropriate manner. Not in the
context of a fun Halloween evening event.

This church should be ashamed of it's behavior and approach in this
matter. I learned today that the youth minister and it's association
is actually putting it on. What type of parent would allow their children
to participate in something so beneath human decency?

Don't misunderstand me. I was offended by:

A) the actions of the group that put together the "haunted house".
B) Westy and jesus assertion that said actions are representative of Christians.

And yet it is a wonderful demonstration of peoples ignorance of what a Christian really is.
Does one need a church to be a Christian? I have always thought a Christian to be a person with a certain faith not a member of an organization.

All one has to do to be a Christian is to accect Jesus as your Lord and Savior. The going to church part can be helpfull, but Jesus did say something about where, "Two or more are gathered in my name I am there."

No and yes. Being a Christian is about what your faith is in, and how you live that faith out everyday, not who you hang out with on Sundays. As a follower of Jesus (ie a Christian) a direct result of how you live your faith out would be living closely in a tight community with other believers...........which some call a church. Now does that "church" or communitiy of believer "have" to be an official organized denomination or "church", absolutely not, it does not "have" to be. Is being a member of a community of believers "required" to be a Christian, nope.

Biblically, the "church" is not an organization, or a local assembly of beleivers, it is the universal "body" of believers regardless of the "organization" on the sign out in front of the building they meet in.

Under the definition of the church being the universal body of believers I apologise for my earlier remarks.
Defined as an organization with a building a sign and phone number I'll let them stand.
