media blackout
I've been working places for 15 years where mobile phones are really the staple of communication, and the idea of a voicemail is so weird now that 23 different kinds of text message are available instead.

US-based people get really frustrated that I don't even set up an inbox. Then I remember they're working from land lines.
we switched to full proper viop a few years ago, but managed to keep our phone #s. i get phone calls through my laptop now. or could get phone calls through my laptop i should say. nobody actually uses that anymore.

Compliance prohibits use of text. It's written communication that cannot be automatically put into record, so we can't do it.
There are apps that can be set up to auto-archive for an enterprise. WikrMe Pro, for one, is one I know some people with various compliance requirements have set up.

Not saying it's necessarily advantageous over the existing for your job, just that it can be done.

Or... No texting.

My dream is to see how far I can throw my work phone. I don't need more methods of work communication.

These things make me laugh every time. I'm a terrible person...

Insurance and lease costs are the issues
No lease costs back where all the land is private...

I suspect the doom fog will give way to doom freezing rain and then doom snow as you get higher? :D

i'm not a high enough pay grade to be issued a work cell phone
Fun fact: I've never owned a mobile phone of my own. Since around 2002, I've always had a company-issued mobile.

I am guessing you are not familiar with the concept of the marine layer, nor have a need to. We occasionally have the luxury to get above the shit weather.

And hopefully today it doesn't requiring climbing 6000'.

Similar, I've only had a work cell for the last ~15 years.

At one point in my career I had 3 phones and two radios at all times. Was a bit much for battery management inside my rig

Have you considered a Trebuchet? It is the Gentleman's Siege Engine.
There's enough elevation difference between my front door and the land sloping away below the house I'm pretty confident I can get a good distance the cave man way.

I remember a sweet inversion at Big Sky many years ago. Fun skiing on top of that.

Speaking of weathermonkey.com, it's been spitting slippery snau at a brisk rate the last hour or two here. Slippy slidey.

Went to the GP to have my ears checked because of low-frequency hearing loss on the right side. Doc said that since it just started, to give it a week or two and take antihistamines, then he can escalate to a specialist.

I'd ask him to refer you *now* - my wife had some viral thing that the GP recommended "wait and see" and she lost hearing in one ear completely. ENT said they could have at least *tried* some treatment had she come straight to the specialist...

YMMV. I'd get to an ENT sooner rather than later.

Watch. It’s probably from my 5G booster.

they still paying for the service?
Nope.

Related story: In 2007 our company was looking for a cellular provider. At the end of March, I was flying back from the big island and wound up seated with a woman who worked for Unicel, which later on was bought by AT&T. We got to talking and she gave me and my gear a ride from the airport to work, where I had parked my car. A result was that we contracted with them for service. I got sort of special benefits, the details of which I don't remember, out of that.

I have le work phone. Ditched my personal phone, no point in paying for that shiz when my work will cover it. I figure that I save about $550 per year with this.

Nope.

They tried to get me to use my personal phone as my client phone. I told them to promptly fuck off; No client is getting in my personal phone number. I now have a work phone too.

Received my monthly CC statement, a credit for nearly 500.00 showed up and cannot figure it out right now. Was three transactions, two shipments, one shipping error and one buyer-protection. Started in November and gave up after I finally had my 5 chains and cassette.
Guess I'm having coffee in the morning.

I bought a Canon toner cartridge for an inordinate sum, shipped the old one back for "recycling", and they refunded me for the cartridge. ???

Why no close-up pics of Rocks? Clouds are not nearly as cool.
