anyone using the 593 sidearm? I just bought one today and I'm wondering what people think it them.

Anyone ever mounted a car roof rack on the bed rails of a pickup? I'm thinking of trying it, but am concerned about the lateral force. Can't find anything for non-QR front wheels for inside the bed that is secure and easy to remove/install. Input appreciated....

we're using them on the bumpers of our shuttle trucks to haul d.h. sleds up the mt.
gives us more rider room in the beds.

sturdy.

pics? I'm having trouble picturing how it's mounted
we're using to of them mounted to a trailer hitch rack.
the bikes don't have much excess wobble at all.
(sorry no pics.)

i'd think they'd be first rate up on a roof.

i use a yakima cobra for my roof.
but i also run a tie down strap across the back and thru my back wheel for added strength.

FWIW... I have the sportworks version (same thing minus the Thule sticker and locking cores) and it's great. It was a life save when I had my 4Runner, but I haven't used it since I got my pickup.

good news now I just need to mount it - and get use to lifting 45lbs of bike onto the hummer. Hummmm
have fun wiht that. I used to lift 33lbs of bike onto my lifted 4Runner - that was a nightmare, especially AFTER a ride when my legs felt like rubber.

Why didn't you get the hitch version?

I have already invest the cash on a roof system and I didn't want to dump the $360 for a hitch version when I could spend 90 on the roof one.

And

I would hate to have to take the hitch one off after every ride (garage)

You could get a regular QR rack and use a Hurrican adapter (they come in 20mm, 30mm and Lefty...maybe others too) and then use a cable or chain to secure the bike to the truck. It might be a little more ghetto than other options, but it'll definitely work. I got a Hurrican adapter for like 15 bucks on ebay a month or two ago.

why not put your bike inside the hummer? i mean it's not like it isn't twice the size of most regular suvs.

That's the best part! I've got king cobras on my jeep with a lift and tires, so with bike on the roof it's 10' 3" tall. My bike is around 45lbs, and my g/fs is around 40. I'm about 6'4" so it's not really that big of a deal.

Think of it as added anti-theft. More than likely you'll just end up finding an unconcious thief on the ground and a couple of teeth stuck in your top tube.:busted:

I was sitting in my jeep in the parking lot with bikes on top one time and this lady walked by telling her husband "That's too high! Isn't that too high? That's just too high!"

As pointed out below, the h2 is nothing more than cosmetic changes to a (much cheaper) trail blazer.

The inside is pretty much the same (space wise) or smaller, the outside is just retardedly huge and ugly to boot. It's pretty useless for hauling anything.

My proposed solution: Sell Hummer, get a sensible vehicle costing $10 000 less. With the saved money, get a decent thule hitch rack AND have more room in your garage. As an added bonus, you don't look like a soccer mom driving an obnoxious, underpowered shoebox around town.

I've been using the roof-mounted Sportworks version of the sidearm for about three years now and have no complaints. Super easy to use and very secure - they hold DH bikes for long road trips and off-road action no problem. Hopefully Thule didn't chang much when they bought the company.

got two on the roof of my f-150, along with a kayak/canoe rack. I like it but lifting a bike up there is getting old, I carry a cosco step ladder in the bed of the truck to make it easier. I like it.
