Towing the party line.
If the dealer catalog doesn't have this, they need to hire a new print materials department in its entirety.

Also, if you find this insulting, you should get a better job or be less of a pansy.

In the bathroom, fighting a battle
How is that insulting?

It's just a clever way of saying "Our bikes are heavier than the compettion, theoreticaly they may be stifer, and we prefer not to talk about it" All the other companies lie inf their catalogs so you, as a shop employee, need to weigh everything yourself if you want to know the exact weight of a frame or bike.

Or when comparing bikes size to size theirs could be lighter but when Big S or Trek weighs a petite and calls it their actual weight how can they compete when comparing a medium or large?

Santa Cruz Blur XC reviewed in MBA - 26.2lbs (w/o pedals)
Santa Cruz Blur XC build up same on SC website - 23.68lbs

I can understand being a little off, but 2.5lbs?

Yeah, Cannondale hasn't had weights on their webpage in a long time. It's kind of annoying, but I understand where they're coming from. Why bother printing the truth if everyone else is lying? Why bother printing a lie? Still weights on webpages do give you a useful metric to go by. If Cannondale really wanted to lead the charge they could do a write up on exactly how they measure weight, and make it something reproducible.

Step 1: Define the scale used and calibration methods for the scale.
Step 2: Define the bike used (size, component spec)
Step 3: Report the weight
Step 4: Explain that measured weights may vary due to a variety of different parameters and that your results may vary.

Basically, if they just treated the weighing of their bikes as a scientific process with verifyable, reproducible results they could obtain the upperhand in the bike weight reporting category. But is all this hassle worth it? Maybe not.

Well, Kona had their entire line of Dawg bikes weighing more than 29.8 lbs, which seems very realistic to me, considering I own one.

Why bother mentioning this at all? And if I went down to 50 C/Dale dealers, how many will give me a weight spec on request?

I agree on one hand and not on the other. It's mildly annoying to have a 'weight' link to a page that slaps you in the face with a disclaimer, but it's just as annoying to expect a link for the same thing and not be able to find it [lots of corporate sites have shoddy navigation].

I remember trying to find weights for Marzocchi forks once upon a time and couldn't find it, but looked and looked, because back then it was a big deal between the company i worked for... [I don't know if they've changed that recently, i haven't looked.]

Marzocchi does list weights, although for one year, it was sans steerer. They still list the fork and steerer separately, but at least they include both weights now.

I wasn't trying to say, btw, that they didn't but that once - long ago - i was just looking for the info and it was hard to find.
