oh . . . carmonkeyDOTcom, eh? Let's see - 46 and have had: celica (used), civic (new), civic (new), passat (used), infiniti (used), no car since march (sharing highlander w/wife).

just a normal derp of a day so far here. time to fire up some more coffee!
my first vehicle was a 98 tacoma. barebones, but automatic 4x4. single cab, manual locks and windows. purchased used in 2003 with just under 30k miles. drove it to 200k (including back and forth across the country). was "recalled" in 2011 due to the frame rust issue, so i got 80% of what i paid for it. took the money i got from the tacoma and bought a brand new 2012 impreza (first year of the redesign). was from the first shipment of the new model the dealer had; i actually got it just under invoice price because i put money down before they were in inventory. drove it off the lot with 11 miles. it's just under under 120k miles right now.

I used to have to travel a lot for work and have put tons of miles on cars. Many of them were fully paid off by company mileage reimbursement. All maintenance done myself short of $1300 I spent on the 2008 GTI to have a timing belt and fuel pump follower replaced for preventative measures.

Also have had several motor scooters.

Yamaha Seca 600, Honda VFR 800, Suzuki SV650, Triumph Tiger 800

woot got tomorrow off. Weather looks like the best day of the week. Assuming the place isn't wrecked with snow, I'm going to go check out the trails in the video below. Haven't been there before, but looks pretty fun.

Whoops, don't know why I skipped the 'hobby' cars as they were daily drivers. But yeah still have the 1966 Amazon, sold the 1969 Volvo 142.

The Amazon got sidelined after it started to be unreliable, turns out I just got a bad tank of gas and things are fine once I got it flushed. But I let the registration expire during that process and haven't wanted to go to the DMV in Covid times.

We had a breakdown this morning because remote school starts tomorrow. Haley's really upset that she won't be able to see her friends, even a small group 2-days per week. I ended up calling the school psych to bring it up. The remote classes will we standard all-day classes, just in front of the computer. I asked if it had been address to put the whole school on the same lunch and recess schedule so kids in the same nuclear neighborhood groups (ie integrate even under lockdown) are able to play in those windows. Apparently nobody had even thought of the idea and it's going to be address over break.

How is this not something that's been thought of? There are concerns about social well-being of kids and that's a really simple one. The kids playing will be with their immediate groups anyways, so that's not going to change anything.

On a side note, I should probably start working.

Sorry, I'm Canadian ..sorry...
Here.

Lesson learned, 2 pain killers (Robax) and a weed gummy do not mix well with an electric massager. I am bruised from ass hole to shoulder blades from applying to much pressure to the massager. Felt no pain last night...

More mobile today, though, I feel like I faced a paintball firing squad.

DAMAGE REPORT

oof. me. wound up staying up later than intended cleaning the workshop, and probably had a beer or 2 too many. it had gotten messy. again. my son has expressed interest in doing some wood projects (like a bird house and bird feeder), so getting it cleaned up so we can use it. figure it'll be fun, good learning, and a good way to spend time in the colder winter months.

In hell. Welcome!
nissan rogue? It's not fancy, but I was driving busted cars until I was like 25, and even then that infiniti was nice but not fantastic.

we pay her a small fortune to keep her around and watch the kids while we work. If we lost her, we probably would lose our jobs as well (or one of them)...which would likely mean losing the house as well.
we've been circling the entrance to shit creek since the wife lost her job and was kicked off LTD. we're living off savings/retirement while we wait for the lawsuit(s) to settle

he's not complaining about online learning (but being in kindergarten, which is thankfully half day for our district, he doesn't really know any different vs in person school). then again, it would make a cool decoration for next halloween.....

I'm exaggerating pretty dramatically. If we lost our nanny, we would return to daycare and my daughter's afterschool programs to help with at-home learning. We would not be able to keep up with two jobs and teaching our daughter and raising our son. We do not have help to rely on, but there are resources available so we can all survive.

But no, we could not have a stay at home parent with two new cars in the drive and a large home to call our own in a great school district, we would likely need to downsize to maintain, which is not unreasonable but would be less comfortable.

An 8y/o can't put a concept to that dude, and you know it. All the kids in the neighborhood are having issues already and we're expecting them to get back to where the we're or worse when it was hybrid. We're just trying to keep them from ending up with long-term social and emotional issues too.

On our street we have 3-4 families that stay pretty limited to themselves as it is. During lockdown, we were even more isolated to just our families and basic shopping so that the kids could still play together. We're expecting to do the same through the holidays and as a group have started cancelling holidays with family. There's a good chance Thanksgiving for our families will be our same 3 isolated families, because we isolate from everyone.

That being said, if Wifey's mom decides to join us, nobody else is coming. It about being responsible. We know this.

yea, it's a shitty situation. just some dark humor. part of me is almost thankful my kids are too young to really understand what's going on. they do get the general concept that we're not going anywhere so we don't get sick, and that its equally important so other people don't get sick either. we're in sort of a similar situation. a lot of kids in our neighborhood, but we allow our son to play - outside only - with 2 or 3 of the other kids his age. he's actually good about keeping his distance.

In a van.... down by the river
all this talk about cars, i'm 37 and on my second car.
49 and on my 7th(?):
'77 Spitfire
'80 Tercel
'81 Tercel
'85 4000S Quattro
'95 Legacy Wagon
'01 Odyssey
'14 F150

I also had a '76 TR-6 but that one never saw the road...

I am an admitted "car guy" and in my teenage years burned through a string of them. Civic, Quattro, 200tq, Conquest, MR2, Blazer, S6, FX35, Rav4, Alfa. Owned the civic and infiniti the longest.
You are an admitted masochist/poor decision-maker. The Honda, Toyota, and Infinity excepted. :D

i grew up poor, so to me cars were always just utilitarian. i didn't have a car (or even a cell phone for that matter) until I was in college.
I've still never owned a mobile phone of my own. :homer:

the first car i remember of my parent's was my dad's '78 K5 blazer.
I had a buddy with one of those in high school. Holy shit the shenanigans involved with that vehicle.

'85 T-bird
Was it the turbo-coupe? My sister had one of those... blew it up.

Perhaps you enlightened gentlemen can help me navigate these stormy seas. As a very impressionable and easily influenced little lamb, I cannot help but be petrified by the thought that antifa will take my guns, burn my house down, and donate my children's body parts to planned parenthood for a socialist communist fascist baby part pizza eating night.
