Time for a fork rebuild

Ok, I got myself a lotta questions about rebuilding my Sherman Breakout Plus. Here we go...

Fork oil: Should I use the Manitou/Motorex 5wt40 semi-bath specific oil? Or is there something better I should be using?

Bushing/seal lube: I have easy access to Manitou Prep M. Would something else be better? I've heard good things about Slick Honey, but I'm not sure how easily I could acquire some of that stuff. And do I really need that goofy little grease gun that Manitou sells?

Oil measurement syringe: Manitou recommends using one of these to measure out oil in CC's. Where would I be able to buy one of these syringes? Just a hardware store?

5th Element makes a fork oil tool. It is a little overkill, but it is the best tool for the job.

Doesn't that fork need 7.5 weight oil?
The progressive tool is great. I have the consumer verison and bought the shop version for the last shop I worked at. Although you can just use a graduated cylinder as 1cc of fluid is equal to 1ml.
Slick honey is cheaper than prep M and just as nice.

Everything you need is available through QBP, so any shop can order you the stuff. For fork oil I'd just go buy some golden spectro 5 and 10 wt and mix your own. Way cheaper.

He's talking about semi-bath oil, not damping fluid. Yeah, just use the motor oil they recommend.

For grease, Prep M should be fine; if you want to try slick honey, let me know how it works out. If you really want to go crazy, get the pure liquid teflon lube they sell for skis and snowboards...comes in a little "puck" container. Neat stuff, super-slick.

You can buy syringes at www.mcmaster.com (along with high-grade bolts, double zip-ties, torque wrenches, left-hand drill bits, and a lot of other cool, useful, and hard-to-find stuff), or try a local pet supply store (saw some there the other day). Auto and home supply stores carry them sometimes, too.

I replace the stock 5wt damping oil with 7wt bel-ray, by the way, and find it works much better.

Most automotive stores should have syringes with CC or mL measurements (1cc = 1mL).

Straight from Manitou, they said that any 5w oil will work. I bought a quart of 5w Bel-Ray fork oil when I did an oil change in my fork and the Manitou tech told me to just use the same stuff for the semi-bath.

Manitou's grease gun is for forks with lube ports. The Breakout doesn't have a lube port, thus the gun serves no purpose for you...
