Time for a new party

Front Range, dude...
The time has come in the USA for a viable 3rd party. I am sick of the GOP, the Democrats dont impress me, and the rest of them cant get enough together to run a serious campaign. We need a new party, one that is not connected (I know, dream on...) to special interests, and truly represents Americans...
My first 2 POTUS candidates are McCain and Powell. Anybody with me?

So okay, Chuck Norris and? Vin Diesel? Mr T?
Seriously though, we need new blood.
There's aboutt 500 "new" parties out there that simply cannot compete because the main barrier is funding. What you need is a few billion dollars to even be considered serious.

Anyone got that?

Ross Perot was rich as all hell, sucked at the "issues" but still made a dent simply because of exposure. IMO, the only thing that will be the downfall of a major party is some huge scandal, and then simply all the members of that party will join another party called "Progressive" or "Federal" which will be exactly the same thing. We are stuck and it sucks.

I got .47 cents up for grabs.

Seriously, instead of pumping more cash into a corrupt framework how about we even the playing field by doing away with the status quo?
That being doing away with politicians sucking the teets of private money, you know those lobbyists, special interest groups ,exotic golf trips and $400,000 dinners we always hear about.

This cozy arrangement is what has gotten our sweet capitalist country into what it is.

If you made public money available to finance campaigns maybe we could get things back to important stuff like serving the good of the people again.

Personally i believe many a people are having less and less confidence in their political parties these days.

given that media campaigns make winners,
wouldn´t it be easier to push for a law to limit campaign expenses?
or to push for equal exposure, or federal paid advertisement for all major parties.

the down would be a higher likehood of a whacko single-issue fundie party getting elected... then the solution would be worse than the problem.

Exactly. Funding is the big sticking point, and a few million dollars will get you some votes in a house race. It takes hundreds of millions of dollars to effectively run for pres. now. This is from the 2000 election:

Unfortunately, the people that have to pass those laws are the very people who don't want laws that level the playing field.

That was some scary firgures. :disgust: Yeah, as prevously mentioned funding is the problem, and those who can change the system to fund campaigns federaly probably don't want to as they have everything to lose.

Good someone has started a thread on this as I was curious about this and wanted to start one my self to hear what you guys think about the Green Party and Ralph Nader. Personaly I think the only way for people to see a real change is if the Greens get voted in. Pat Buchanan is wicked so nothing good is going to come out of there but my knowledge on what the Green Party stands for is almost non existent. Are they enviromentalists? Think Ralph Nader would have signed the Kyoto agreement if he had been elected prez in 2000?

mccain's worthless.

he's done nothing to bolster our borders.
and seeing what state he's from, that's unacceptable.

he's too worried about "the detainees" and their rights.
not the mindset of a true leader that we're so in need of.

the powers that be will never allow a uncorrupt third party to get of the ground.
we're screwed.

McCain ought to just make it official and join the Dem's Party

Chavez to president: You are the devil!
President to Chavez: I know you are, but what am I? HA.

Seriously, there is no comeback for that.

If you look at the Green party from an issues view point and not their personalities they really have captured the essence of what politicians should be doing.
Man, that is what we actualy should look at. The TV medium has taken the issues away from what matters and put it into the messenger. Politicians have to be frikkin actors today. News articles don't go as deep as they did 30 years ago because of all them damn pictures of posing politicians taking up all the space...
