Getting in pretty desperate need of some need tires for the horse. Right now i have roller's f&r 2.6(that is bigger than a 3) and a 2.4 in the rear. The trails around here are mild, some rocks, roots, and mostly jsut hard packed dirt. last couple dh races were HUGE rock gardens, and i also ride around town doing the urban ****. So what tire would you recomend for these conditions?

Michelin Comp 24s front and rear, or comp 32 front if you want to deal with the weight and rolling resistance. Shouldn't be necessary in mild or rocky conditions. Maxxis highroller front and rear would be my second choice, in 60a durometer if you ride pavement at all.

I assume you mean the specialized roller. I too have the 2.6" i nthe front and its bigger than any tire I've compared it to yet, Mich 2.8 included. I really like the tire and the lightweight casing in the front is perfect for me(only 140 pounds) I run the 2.3" RS in the rear with the with the thick walls and they did great in my last race. I really can't recomend anything else as I havn't had much time on others. my next set might be 2.7/2.5" Hirh roller combo though.

Comp 32 all the way. There is a stepped knob that will hold the side knobs from folding on urban stuff. And they are specific to hardpack in DH terms.

Personally though, I'd go buy some cheap $10.00 closeouts for urban. Screw ruining perfectly godd DH tires on pavement. Big waste of money in my opinion no matter what brand you buy.

If you like the Specialized tires wait and see their new tires. I saw a few pics from Interbike and they look sweet.

My first choice is Maxxis Minion F SRY front and Minion R 60D rear now that they dont have the orange stripe. Now they will actually match.

I'll throw in my vote for the Kenda Nevegal/Blue Groove combo, sticky rubber dh casing. Awesome rubber compund, sticks to everything. The 2.5s work well in most situations but the 2.7s are wider and taller/higher volume. Pretty light considering the size, sorry don't have a gram count for ya. I use the 2.7s for Northstar and other nasty stuff. I went through a bunch of different intense and maxxis tires before settling on these for my vp free (have never owned michy's).

I agree with bizutch though, it's kind of a waste to use good dh tires for urban, I like soft rubber for dh but you'll go through them in a hurry on pavement plus they roll slower. I understand the need for an all rounder, but you're asking a lot from one tire and you'll be compromising one way or the other.
