Tips tracking down cone for hub off Kona?

Here's my problem: I can't seem to find a new cone for the front hub of my 01 Stuff anywhere in town. Kona's lit describes it as a 'KK', whatever that might be. It's a disc hub, with a cartridge bearing on the hub side and loose bearings on the other.

3 of the bike shops I've hit up simply have nothing that threads on and is of similar size. The 4th, my local Kona dealer, sold me one that threads on about halfway & then binds (and is sort of close in size). Yes,the original still threads on & off perfectly.

I dropped Kona an email yesterday, and got a note saying that another note was being sent to the US warranty guy... while waiting for word from him, though, I thought I'd check with the monkeys. Anyone else had these troubles, or am I just plain unlucky?

'We don't handle small parts, try your local dealer & their Quality Bicycle Products catalog' said Kona. So, back to my LBS - this was my 5th trip to a bike shop hunting down this cone, and the second to this particular one.

What do you know, there in the miscellaneous Taiwan section of the hub parts, there's a cone with the same axle diameter and thread pitch (9mm x 1mm, in case anyone wonders). We looked in the relevant box, and it actually mentions 'KK' as one of the brands for this part!

$4.50 later I rushed home to try the thing out, and sure enough, it fit just fine. Such a simple process in the end, I really have to wonder why the shop that sells dozens of Konas wasn't able to come up with the right part...

i would say becouse the majority of people who will break the hubs will upgrade before or when they break..
but then again that costs more..

Sure would cost more - $4.50 versus a new hub & rebuilt wheel?

Of course, this was simple preventative maintenance, not an actual break. I guess nobody bothers maintaining their hubs unless they're 'worth it' (ie, not some off-brand Taiwanese junk).
