I've been bouncing the idea of throwing some maxxis's on the old trail bike and was just curious to see what people have to say about maxxis's tire compounds. I'm leaning a little more towards the 60a compund simply for durability; but i have heard that 60a tires dont hook up all that well. And if i were to go with the "super tacky" or 42a compund im thinking they will just wear out too quick-however the extra grip is always welcomed. So just wanted to see what people have to say and have used/experienced. Thanx

um yeah i have 3 sets of maxxis all in deff types of compounds. the 60, 42, and 40. i think the 40 is crazy grippy and wears fast. you can notice wear after one hard ride day, so i would stick with the 42. but 60 is great too. depends also what kinda riding youll be doing.

Aggressice trail, super-d, trails-somewhat cross country esk; with the occasional few chairlift friendly days.

For training i use 60 front and rear, but don't know what i am going to do next season during races, run super tacky or slow reezay, just have to see if the difrence of grip vs durabilty is big.
But my advantage is i can get every maxxis tyre in every compound @ 20eur/tyre or 6 tyres for 100 :greedy:

Just go with 60's since it's your trail bike and I'm assuming you put the most miles on that one. And just drop tire pressure when you think you need more traction. Can't go too wrong with that.
