Need tires that are wide just not 3.0 wide..Whats the next best tire for downhill..Who makes it? It also has to be a company that makes 24 and 26 inchers.(i ride a 2004 bighit) I was running the Nokian Gazz jr.2.6, thought they were a touch too small and now I have the 3.0 Gazz..but it seems to be a bit too big.Anyone make something like that thats inbetween those 2? DO the intense tires run true to size?. What about the michelin 2.8's ..I hear they run small.
Thanks, Chris

there is no best tire for downhill... Its all personal preference. I'm a huge fan of IRC Kujo's and Maxxis Minions myself. The Kujos are a little smaller than you're wanting, Minions come in a few sizes you might like though. I'm sure there will be lots of opinions about this, I'd take a look at what each rider has to say about his tires and go from there.

I'd say you're way, way too worried about the size of the tire and not the performance.

The Michelin 2.8s run about true to size or a touch on the small size, but I bet in a blind test you'd find they had far more traction than the Gazz. 3.0's because of their rubber compound and tread design. The Nokian Gazzolodi tires have been surpassed by every other major manufacturer when it comes to rubber compound and tread design - they're just old news and don't work so well anymore.

I think Michelin tires rock. Try out the 2.8.

I use Minions in 2.7, they work well for me. I have Michelin's on two of my other bikes and I have no complaints with them either. I did notice that the Michelins seem to be a softer compound....

No, they dont. You could run a 2.5/2.8 comp16 up front, and then something like a 2.5 or 2.35 nevegal in the back. I like that combo.

I am building a 04 foes fxr, and am having a hard time deciding what tires to run. I was thinking of trying to go tubeless (I have crossmax xl rims). The locals tell me it is just a pain in the ass. It seems like a lot of pros are running tubeless systems. Can anyone recommend a good tire for the mud? (It is muddy year round where I ride). Should I get Ust tires? Or try to use stanard tires with stans?
