I need a new helmet (sold my old D2) and I've heard a lot about the TLD's new SE Helmet. I know it is a moto helmet, but a lot of people is using it for DH and BMX.

I am in doubt between getting a D2 or the new SE. Sugestions? Anybody using SE?

I am going for the SE this year. I have already ridden moto helmets and want the extra protection. I know you are not a search expert but there has been several good thread about this subject. From what I remember people who ride the SE finds its not to heavy and like the extra protection. Besides that I think the SE comes in the most bitching colors this year.

just my 2$ but the se is one of the heaviest helmets i have ever put on. the quality and fit is badass, but the weight is hard to overcome.

Thanks. I did a search and did not find that thread.

SE Weight: 3lb 2oz = 1.416kg
D2 Weight: 2lb 8oz = 1.020kg

Isn't 400g too much?

The price is a bit more than the regular D2, but it's worth it. I took a hard header in December that dug a groove in the ground and my 05 SE Hot Rod didn't crack at all other than snapping the visor. The weight is not bad and you get used to it after a couple of runs.

I can totally speak from experience here on the D2s. I have had 4 major concussions wearing the carbon D2s, and last season after a pretty serious crash in Whistler, I switched to a moto helmet. It was a tough descision at first because I had always worn the D2s cause they were the sh$t! But after realizing I was close to being retarded, I got Oneal's new 904. This helmet is 7 oz more than a carbon D2, and 1 to 2 oz more than the SE. But it was the best move I have made. Get the SE. I have seen several people wearing the D2s take headshots and that helmet just doesn't offer the protection you need for downhill. For a mere difference in weight you won't end up talking funny and having to wear a diaper after a really bad crash! Just my two cents.
