I heard about Sunday River selling all there stuff to Attitash right after they closed in the summer of 03'. I was there for the last B.O.M.B. race and it was freakin awesome. But i got really bummed last winter when i heard Sunday River closed for mtb and then i sorta heard that this past summer Attitash started dh mountainbiking. I thought "ya ya prolly they just wanna try sumting new and all the trails prolly suck and prolly are not even trails."
I looked on the website and looked at a bunch of threads about peeps talkin how good it was.
Now hears what i'm wondering....... if any of u have been there, can u compare it to another mountain around here??? and if u have been to sunday river before ... can u compare it to that??? Cause i wanna get back into DHing!!!!

The trails at Attitash are very fun. The runs are fairly short and the lift is pretty quick. This adds up to many runs in a day. The trails are tight and twisty. Most trails are steep, there are a few that are more mellow (nice to get your speed fix). There are both natural and manmade drops on the trails. Look around and you will find several other cool natural obstacles on the mountain. The overall feel is more freeride than dh race style. Very fun place. It is not Sunday River though. You will not be putting your own bike on the lift or having a party in the parking lot. Trails are not as unrelenting and difficult as Sunday River. Couple other things Attitash has going for it are you can ride the alpine slides, or the water park after DH. Once you paid for your lift ticket you can do any of this stuff. Also North Conway has many more dining and entertainment options than Bethel (Sunday River Brewing or Pat's Pizza). All that said I'm getting a season pass for Attitash next summer. It's worth it.
Where are you? I live midcoast Maine as well.

The lift ride (high speed quad) was described to me as being "too short to smoke a butt".

You should try asking this on Bustedspoke.com. Its a New England forum. I know that Attitash ahs come up there before. I was bummed that I did not make it there this summer.

it would be sweet if attitash opened the lift to the top, but it's not high-speed. it's very slow. you could do at least 2 full rns on the other lift, in the time it would take you to get up on the other lift, also i think part of the mountain near the summit belongs to the national park service so that is another issue.

That place has a lot of potential for sure. If you want just straight up natural terrain its a blast. The only thing that sucks is i guess its on protected land or something, so they cant cut trees that are smaller than 6" in diameter. The result: a bunch of random trees in the middle of the trail and some weird twisty turns. Its cool though, it keeps you on your toes. Takes some getting used to and once you get it pinned there it really builds up your reflexes.
Best thing about attitash is the fact its only 29 bucks for an all around pass which will get you onto the alpine slide and best of all the water park at the end of the day!
