A fellow member stated something about a "Toby Keith Love Fest" in a post about 9/11 recently. That got me to thinking of a recent episode of 60 minutes, where Toby Keith explained how, despite popular thought, he is indeed a democrat. His songs, as many know, often express patriotism and a love for our country. Funny... a democrat who loves America... who woulda thunk it?

Neither I'm saying its nice for once to see a democrat proud of the USA. Honestly, I'm not a right wing nut or anything like that, a moderate really, and I don't pretend to know politics up and down, but if so many of you hate America that much, why do you stay? Certainly there are other places you could go, some farther than others, right? I'm not trying to piss anyone off but it just doesn't make sense to me? I know America's not perfect by any stretch of imagination, neither is George Bush, Iraq, ect., but I for one am sick of the bitching. My girlfriend is schedualed for deployment to Iraq in May, and her brother just got back, along with 2 other of my friends back last march from 14 months, all saying we are doing more good over there than bad; so yes, the war affects me close at home. I guess I'm just curious why you don't leave?

Because taking up residency and being permitted to work in another country aren't as simple as you make it sound?

Doing more harm than good. Sure thing. Tell that to the thousands of civilians who have been killed, the infrastructure destroyed and those who have been falsely imprisoned as "terrorists" all in the guise of bringin them Democracy. Gimme a break. Anyone who believes any good is coming ouf of this debacle besides having Sadaam out of the picture is deluded.

Did Saddaam suck and was he a tyrannical dictator? Of course, no one will deny that. But know what sucks worse? Being blown up at random, having no power, no water, no functioning economy and very little hope.

Wow! a normal reply... I figured most posts would be similar to burleyshirly's... thanks dildo.

Anyways, before we get into the facts, I'm assuming you got your information from the press, right? It's been long known that the press likes to twist and warp stories to get ratings up, right? My information, although less widely accepted, has come from troops coming back to the states from actually being over there. Let's start there. The flaming resposes make me laugh... I'm making my argument; how, if you won't listen to my opinion, can you label me as ignorant?

Right. Every news gathering service on earth is making things up to make poor little America and it's administration look bad. This includes reports from the other intelligence services of the world, AS WELL AS reports by US based intelligence services.

Please, remove your head from your rectum. Do you guys all stick your head in the sand and pin a "support our troops" sticker to your asses?

I'm not saying they are all wrong, but that I trust the information I'm getting from troops and friends coming back hom from the war. Again, I don't pretend to know everything but as an average working citizen its hard not to stereotype liberals as whiners with instances such as this. Maybe if you guys all pulled the "impeach Bush" strickers off your asses, and looked around, you could save yourselves from the stereotype we "rednecks" put on all of you. Ignorant right? It must be... damn I'm a bad person. I'll remember to roost another mtn. biker next time I'm out dirtbiking. Thanks guys :)

I love this response.
No one hates America, they hate the corrupt people that run our government. The corrupt people that are sending your loved ones and friends off to die in a foriegn country and for what reason?
I am pround and love to be an American but am absolutely ashamed of the things our politicians do.
My girlfriend is schedualed for deployment to Iraq in May, and her brother just got back, along with 2 other of my friends back last march from 14 months
Ask them why they think they were there. What was the purpose of this military exercise or "war"?

And there is no nice way to says this, but anyone that has joined the military in the past 5 years is a fool. It is unfourtunate when people feel that the only way to get a college education or a better life is the military route.

Its a sad time when the Bushes, Cheneys, Rumsfields and the people that pay to put them in office can look at the American public with a straight face and tell them people are dieing for a good cause while reeping billions of $ from their blood.
I guess its even worse how many people eat the crap up?

That you even think that democrats aren't proud of America is a sign that you're only paying attention the right wing talking points. Only republicans ever make claims that the democrats "hate America."

If you were actually paying attention you would realize that 99% of liberals/democrats are proud of America (or "love America" if that's the language that speaks to you) which is why it pains them so much to see what the current administration is doing to us, with us, and in our name. Being ashamed of the administration is not the same as being ashamed of America. Quite the opposite, in fact.

you could save yourselves from the stereotype we "rednecks" put on all of you.
Sorry, you don't get to claim "redneck" status, nor get to project your politics onto the rest of the rednecks in this country.
1. You are from Vermont and spend leisure time riding a bicycle that cost over a grand. Not a redneck.
2. If you're old enough to go to college, I bet you did go, or are going to a 4-year school. Not a redneck.
3. Many many true rednecks are just as angry about Bush & Co... I was just back home in Ohio. My friends (who would laugh you right off your bicycle if they heard you claim yourself a redneck) despise Bush, despite being pro-gun, pro-life, church-going, vocational worker types (one is an army reserveman and construction worker, the other is a fireman and tree-trimmer).

So no, you don't get to claim them as on your "side."

Note also the change from Democrat to liberal. They are not the same. Your assertions that people hate this country are ridiculous. So is your assertion that the people in this country should conform to your ideals or else leave.

Interesting to see how a ? about one of the worst singers in ever flips into a political brawl, JUST LIKE THAT!
I miss the old days of country music, where guys named Merle,
Johnny and Hank sang about getting drunk, prison, infidelity and otherwise being rednecky and trailer parky...
All the "new" country guys suck, with a few exceptions.

Easy buddy I'm not claiming to be a redneck, but I have been called that before on this forum and usually (as I know of) people assume anyone who agrees with Bush is a redneck. I know I'm not a redneck, nor do I pretend to be.

Again, thanks for stereotyping asshat, but you're wrong. First off, I'm from CT. I don't own a mtn. bike, it is too expensive. I've been trying to save up for quite a while now. I did go to college in VT, which I am paying for, however because it was so expensive I had to come back to CT and attend CC for a semester or two. And, although I'm sure you were just kidding, I am a vocational worker. Aside from school, I landscape 35-45 hours a week to pay for my education... So you pretty much nailed that one on the head :bonk:

As I stated earlier, I don't consider myself a redneck at all, I was called one on an earlier post in which I was flamed for my political beliefs, much like this one. Truthfully, I don't agree with everything GW does, but overall I think he's doing more good than bad as a leader. I have found, through many political debates and arguments, that democrats in general are far less likely to hear other's views on certain topics if they themselves don't feel the same way.

Example: I come to this post asking a simple question that expresses views different from the typical standpoint of the forum. Not only am I flamed, but I'm also stereotyped. I admit I am not the most politically-informed person, but I'm learning. When I get asshole remarks like the ones I got on this site, it makes me further despise those with opposing views. It's unfortunate, but I'm human.

I also find it funny that people usually don't respond in the way many of you have while person to person, but nonetheless have the same "you're wrong if you're different attitudes". So flame away monkeys! You have your computers to hide behind!

My conservative friends have heard the same tirade. My Bush-loving (GW, that is... not the good kind) (ex-)girlfriend heard the same tirade. My limosine liberal co-worker with her H2 and M3 and sierra club stickers heard the tirade.

It's not flaming and you get the same thing in person... it's actually a sign that I think you're important enough to care what you think. Fire back, you won't hurt my feelings.

Aside from that, I appreciate the fact that people get brave behind their computers. It means much more direct arguments, with none of the pussy-footing you have to deal with in person.

Sorry about the stereotyping.

edit: also, did you really simmer on this for 2.5 weeks and then come back to reply? Don't stress so much over this stuff. It's an internet forum with strangers.

Nice attack right there. Or maybe both sides are equally guilty of it, including you?

It's a sad day that I agree with most of what Transcend has said here. Why can't people suggest accountability for our leaders?

I am going to put my hands in the garbage disposal now. That is less depressing than the state of our country.

BTW - Toby Keith is a giant douche wad. He is a disgrace to what country music could have been. I hope he ends up as whale poop one day.
