OK Ive been lookin the 05 Kona stab. nice bike. super price, my old bb-7 has had fun but she longs for smooter trails at a more relaxed pace.

Im a little hesitent of the fork on the stab a 888vf-170mm with only preload ajustment. and it makes the bikes front end feel too high. I want to put a Manitou sherman slider+ on with rebound, spv volume & platform pressure, and travel.

I figure the spv and rebound ajustments in the slider witll better compiment the pro-pedal and rebound ajustments on the Fox DHX 4.0 shock.

plus the sherman is shorter then the 888 in overall height while keeping the 170mm of travel.

currently I have a 03 boxxer race set to 178mm of travel so Im well used to a light fork.

I found some mesurements: the 888vf sits at 575mm axel to race (feels too high) the 05 marz drop off triple (05 stinky same frame geomitry as stab) is 568mm axel to race.. (and it feels pretty good)

the sherman is only 540mm!! thats low! thats a 28mm drop from feels pretty good. and 35mm lower than stock. holy cow!

but last year the shop owner built herself an 04 kona stinky primo with a sherman slider+ and a swinger six way shock and this bike was the ulitmate priveteer race rig. so I geuss low can be good.

Crown to axle measurement isn't exactly set in stone on a double crown fork. Couldn't you just slide the slider down in the crowns if you were unhappy with the angles?

If the bike has relatively slack angles and the fork is an inch taller, that would make the HA an inch steeper. I would think that if you want a manueverable bike, that would be a good thing.

The OC
the 888vf is basically a heavier jr t with 1 more inch of travel, it has the same dampening i believe...so check that out, its a lot cheaper too

naw the lack of ajustments is one of the reasons i dont want the fork

a super-T would be better as it is the same exteranly as the jr-T but has more ajustments

the reason Im all sherman is

1. my shop (who im semi sponcered by) sells more manitou forks than anything else

2. I think having spv up front will work better having a DHX pro pedal shock out back
rater than a "non-platform" fork bobing and a shock tring to keep stable.
