It all started with the rakes and then my friends were complaining about the shovels.

I found a guy selling hand made artisan shovels in Canada for $200 each. It didnt even address the things we wanted different.

Now we've got a design and need to make a prototype.

We're thinking "Dirt Jump Tools" or "DJT"

"MAKING TRAILS GREAT AGAIN"
I still need to buy a decent shovel, I can't buy a decent shovel and handle as a package here.
An Aussie company makes a shovel with a nicely angled higher carbon head but the handle is junk.

Still don't think you can beat a Nupla handle-

That looks pretty straightforward. Waterjet/plasma cut the shovel, press brake into shape, then weld the corners/socket onto the body. With 12 ga material you shouldn't need anything more than a HF press + SWAG brake.
Thats the plan at this point. Trying to keep it simple. Hand the water jet dude my cardboard mock up and get flat cut outs I can bend up. My MIG skills are shit but I can make things that work.

Luckily one of the hardest diggers in town is also a professional welder.

I'd like this to work and then move to a unit that can be pressed that has softer edges amd requires minimal welds.

I am also a believer in the ergo power Nupla shovel handles. I buy the handles and re-handle old shovel heads with them.

These are getting longer wooden handles because the Nupla only comes in a standard shovel length.
