It'll all be skied off by end of today. I wouldn't bother.Hmm. HMMMMMMM. Maybe. 3+ hours and effectively off pass but that does look good indeed.

2nd hand word is much more snow at mid and top.Not too shabby...
Steamboat has been holding pretty steady, despite it dumping all day... I suspect that wind may be affecting the snow stake:

It seems that, any more, work is ALWAYS the wrong choice.2nd hand word is much more snow at mid and top.
working today was a bad, bad choice.
Crested 8” before it was cleared a touch after 4 pm. I should be up there tomorrow one way or another.
We *may* be up there as well manana. Unless I sleep in and there's a shitshow on the road. There's a fairly high probability of these things...Crested 8” before it was cleared a touch after 4 pm. I should be up there tomorrow one way or another.
AutoSocks
Yeah - wife's alarm went off at 6, I looked at the traffic and went back to sleep until 8.Traffic was pretty terrible westbound even when we were coming back! Slow moving from Floyd Hill (3-2 squeeze) all the way through the tunnel (per Google Maps–we didn't see that part).
Today's round trip took me from 90% to 36% SOC, so used less energy than the weekend trip. Less traffic on way back had a part in that (so less time sitting with the heater on but not moving much), and also no phantom draw to condition the battery from Sat morning to Sun afternoon?
Wayyyyyy too far and $$$ to roll the dice on conditions, IMO. Japow is a *much* more reliable choice, from what I gather.https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/14/travel/a-family-ski-adventure-in-the-himalayas.html?action=click&module=Well&pgtype=Homepage§ion=Travel
Some day a trip there? But Hokkaido is certainly higher on the list as we have other reasons to be in that general area.
It was not lost on me that for his article, he also had NO pictures of actual powder. Despite the claim of "the powder's thick" in the sub-heading.But none of those would have the potential magic of a gondola, elevation, and basically no people.
The dude hasn't skied in 10 years and clearly isn't chasing powder. That's why, yeah... One can dream. It was not lost on me that for his article, he also had NO pictures of actual powder. Despite the claim of "the powder's thick" in the sub-heading.
Oh - maybe he was basically saying that it was powder that isn't actually powder? Like Cascade Concrete?
Younger brother has done Japan, I vaguely recall lots of snow in the photos I saw. Also now lives in interior BC at a resort, biking trip likely this summer.Wayyyyyy too far and $$$ to roll the dice on conditions, IMO. Japow is a *much* more reliable choice, from what I gather.
I'm going to try to start hitting Interior-BC in the coming years. Much closer, easier to "wing it" when the weather's good, *tons* of resorts (both big and small), etc.
Also want to do some Euro-skiing (Austria and the Sud Tirol especially) in the coming years. Maybe.
This is high on my list before the woman child is out of the house. May be our next big family trip. Hooray employee pricing and miles card!Japow is a *much* more reliable choice, from what I gather.
Your wife & kid sound like kinda beginners? This is high on my list before the woman child is out of the house. May be our next big family trip. Hooray employee pricing and miles card!
They are. I am not afraid to leave them to thier own devices on groomers.Your wife & kid sound like kinda beginners?
I'd recommend leaving them at home unless they get a few legit powder days under their belt and demonstrate proficiency in powder skiing.
Don't tell them I told you this.
No friends or family on a powder day! They are. I am not afraid to leave them to thier own devices on groomers.
Fleshing out the private school idea:So we had Mariko tested out of our own pocket:
She had that one 58th percentile subtest: apparently on that one she was using the inkblot pen to draw letters and color in animals instead of just hitting each matching animal with one inkblot and moving on quickly. Overall 99.9th percentile.
The psychologist who administered the test suggested maybe a year of private school for her, because this test is inadmissible for Denver Public Schools' purposes due to their recent rule change. Hmph. I would really rather not... but I'm willing to go on a school tour and could always pause 529 contributions for a year (which would be 60% of the year's cost right there).
If you work at it you can send them to public school and teach them about entitlement at home.Fleshing out the private school idea:

$20,650 for the year + $400 materials fee + $100 extended field trip costs. I think there's a $2k discount if one pays in one or two installments instead of monthly.
Oof.
I could do it. But this might open the floodgates to having all 3 kids go there down the road, as I'm sure it's a very nice experience that my wife and elder kid will love...
That would be cheaper, wouldn't it...If you work at it you can send them to public school and teach them about entitlement at home.
No, mine is not. And I do kind of regret not springing for it, because who doesn't love to go fast? Come December 2019 there's a non-negligible chance I may have a red Performance (with an extra set of aftermarket 18" wheels to fit my disappointing Hankook winter tires) in the garage. Much depends on the private school situation, timing of the yearly minivan switch, and what the Model Y proves to be once announced.
Fleshing out this idea some more in case we don't decide to flush all our money down the private school toilet.Come December 2019 there's a non-negligible chance I may have a red Performance
I'd keep the big brakes and sticky tires on a 3.5sec 0-60 car. No need to invoke darwin yet.I drove around my current Model 3 a bit tonight, going 0-60 as many times as possible on freeway onramps, and looked a bit more into the Performance idea.
Thoughts:
1) I am very happy with my car's nominally 4.5 second 0-60 performance. Would I be happier with 3.5 seconds (no rollout–they quote it as 3.3 with it)? Sure, but that's not a huge thing. It's fun as it is.
2) I would like more power in the 60-80 mph range.
3) Performance models these days only come with big brakes and 20" wheels with summers. (At launch one could order a Performance with standard brakes and the 18" aero wheels as on mine.) This would be quite the expensive pain for winter meats, plus I've had a vehicle recently with 20"s and recall something about road noise… what was it?
Apparently Tire Rack (and a few boutique companies) have 18"s that clear the big brakes. If I do anything it'll be past snow tire season here in Denver, at least.I'd keep the big brakes and sticky tires on a 3.5sec 0-60 car. No need to invoke darwin yet.
That reminds me of the trucks in Guam. They rocked those during the work week, then put the 44" mudders on for weekend fun.Apparently Tire Rack (and a few boutique companies) have 18"s that clear the big brakes. If I do anything it'll be past snow tire season here in Denver, at least.
