Did a rally race, watched the replay, rendered a fake photo from it from the replay, exported it to my in-game gallery page, and then downloaded it from the website that mirrors that in-game gallery. Technology is cool.

The old girl cleans up nicely. Mobile detailing today for it and the minivan. Snapped photos to use for when I eventually sell it. A few:

Time to work on bikes today. Need to fix/replace my dropper remote on the Pivot—with internal routing not sure how that project is going to go—and then will put a PNW dropper on the commuter bike (so as to make stopping easier when I have a kid both in front of and behind me).

this means the end of my Revved grips on the Pivot. They were a tremendous pain to install in the first place and simply aren’t going back on there again, unless miraculously the dropper remotes open full wide and don’t require grip removal.
Well that was a pain and a half. Had to drop the motor to get the internally routed housing shoved up so as to be accessible.

To drop the motor in turn required pulling the internalized battery, undoing the chainring bolts to get access to the motor mounting bolts, then finally unbolting the motor cover and motor itself.

All that for this:

I didn’t ditch the Revved grips as I reused the Fox Transfer remote with its crappy 2 mm recessed set screw design. The Trans X remote that I ordered from Universal was designed for the barrel of the cable to be at the remote, not what I needed. At least I left some extra length on the capped, new cable so if I go to a PNW lever I just need to figure out how to pry/cut the Fox lever off en bloc.

Elder kid’s bike got cut down lock on grips as her shifter side one in particular wouldn’t stay put.

Finally I put a PNW dropper with so-much-easier external cable routing and its 3 mm setscrew on the Loam lever on the commuter e-bike. Besides it being very heavy, this will make life easier when stopping and dismounting with two of my girls on it (one on the seat on the back rack and the other in front of me on the Mac Ride).

"Hi, Toshi Clark. Your package from Space Exploration Technologies is on its way."

Thanks for the address tip, @gonefirefightin ! I'll be up at the mountain house (for a quote on leveling the water-collecting garage floor) on the 22nd so will haul up the Starlink setup and see if it works up in the mountains

:-o

I've recently had a bug to replace our 30" NG cooktop with a similarly 30" induction cooktop.

Related random joy: it appears that my house's builder (c. 2015) ran both a NG line and a 240V 40A circuit replete with its own breaker to the cabinet under said cooktop, to simplify the construction process presumably as either electric (non-induction was their option) or gas were possible options through them. This makes things much simpler!

Listing is live!

Some errors in there now (the biggest that we're going to ignore the sauna). But a step forward.

Still need the dumpster removed before it's actually rentable, but this is big progress. Finally!

100% more hitch now.

With warmer weather (and a working 12V battery--again FCA ended up reimbursing me for all but $100) comes nice electric efficiency. Almost all electric use lately.

Looking at the house my conclusion is the spreadsheet champion is not an interior designer ;)

My friends had a rental at the Outer Banks for many years and it was amazing how guest could fuck up everything so with a rental you have to strike a balance of nice and durable.

Hope the bookings are pouring in

Booking aren't officially open until the construction dumpster gets removed. It was supposed to be removed about December, but that's how things go.

You can't blame me for most of the house's furniture! Stuff we replaced: deck furniture, living room couches + table (but the entertainment center was their monstrosity), recliners in the loft, loft and basement beds.

How many of y’all have done epoxy on your garage floor? Regrets?

Got a quote for just under $3k: 2.5 car garage, the stem walls, and two MDF steps to the house.

Tried to set up the new fancy Starlink system and encountered this. There appears to be a solder blob within the socket on the router—even if I straighten this connector out this happens every time. Needless to say, it doesn’t seat fully so it doesn’t work.

Ticket submitted.

Edit: Starlink package arrived 4/16. So I have 30 days from that date to either get this sorted with a new setup or return this original and place a 3rd order with yet another email address and service address.

edit 2: Returned it, as Starlink support never got back to me at all.

While up at the house for the Starlink business I verified that the dumpster is still there (apparently the problem is that it's over the weight limit for the presumably pickup-based transfer trucks that carry such 8 yd units).

Now that the listing is sorta live (no actual bookings possible until the dumpster is remedied) when I go to block off my own family's weekend use I now get this kind of admonition. This was the highest-estimated-rent weekend: seems to line up with the tail of at least Houston's spring break week.

The contractor claims that he'll have the dumpster situation sorted out by next week, but we've all seen how his promises for timelines hold up.

Can't you just hire some local dirtbags "we do anything" types to take a 'some' garbage out of the dumpster?

Yeah, I could. Or hire the trash removal guy I’ve used twice now, especially as there’s probably 100-200 lb of construction detritus besides the dumpster as well.

but if this problem resolves itself without money input from me all the better, as the refuse removal was technically part of the scope of the deck work

The Toyota bZ4X exemplifies what I _don't_ want from my next car:

- small greenhouse
- giant D pillar exacerbating that greenhouse for over-shoulder sightlines
- super-sloped rear hatch area that limits utility of the cargo area
- overly stylized for the sake of "style" itself

I'm going to put in a (temporary) WiFi camera in the window of the mountain house so that I can check up on the status of the dumpster in the driveway real-time.

I'm doing it. May 24. Will have to move the cars out (duh) but also everything else touching the floor. Fridge, toolbench, big shelf, bikes. I ordered some corner dollies so that I can wheel things about.

I think the fridge will live for a few days in my driveway near the recycle bins, plugged into the outside outlet there. I should eat my one remaining half-wagyu steak before that point so that no one drives by and pilfers it.

My babies are smart babies

(Yes, they misspelled "expextations"[sic] in there)

((Recall this is my middle kid: 1st grader. Doesn't consider herself a big reader, but apparently is just fine. Recommended "appropriate reading challenge without frustration" level is grade level 3.9-6.0.))

Looking at my schedule tomorrow it appears I have a nice window between 10-1 or so where I could easily sneak out for an hour and take an outdoor spin in the sun on the local multi-use trail. Can’t justify driving to mountain bike, but it’ll still be nice.

:)
