it's a former passenger car of some variety
this quote reminds me that I should spend some quality time here at work, focusing intently thanks to or despite of Diet Coke, figuring out what this car is that 'woo posted the other day:

In a van.... down by the river
hey @Nick do you agree with Watz here? do you bust out 120 planks for shits and giggles on non knee high days?
Just for reference - the biggest day I've ever skied (27" in 24 hours at Flatboat) I was on Watea 96's. I may have been a bit undergunned, but they were fine.

Remember when "fat skis" were 86 under foot? I 'member. :D

tldr: my take on appropriate skis for powder may be a bit... odd.

I don't agree entirely. A floaty ski can make less snow feel like much more. I skied 116mm waist skis all day today, in 1+ feet of incredible powder (but not dry, blower)
But, a ski doesn't necessarily need to be wide to be floaty.

My stupid-day skis are imo one of the best pow skis evar, and they're 128 under foot.

My first tele skis were 66 underfoot and was considered fat at the time...98 or so... Now I'm on 100 and have tried 110s and didn't like the feel. I've never felt like I needed more than 100. Ymmv

Design matters so much, though. My 108s are really fun even on hard snow imo.

I should have mentioned I only tried not once and I agree about mattering designs. Probably should try it/others again...demo days!

Yup, and finding reviewers whose preferences line up with yours.

What I have found I like:

- heavy, damp, not chattery: so “chargers” in review lingo
- fairly normal, not short radius
- can carve but with tails that are easy to release when desired, such as for a quick scrub of speed in the trees or in bumps
- moderate rocker and at least some camber

Six swallow bugs in one of the upstairs bathrooms. Emailed the thermal clean guy to get him out here to reheat the house to 130F and cook them out. Again. No renters until the 13th so extended my hold until the 12th and trying to get him out here before we’re up, clearly, on the 11th.

i think Nick is telling me to get the 120s
I think the world is telling me to get the 120s. Sale! from a EU store

0A5B90FD-5DAC-4470-A6B8-30EB7C80B0C7.jpeg

Since they’re so straight I think I’d go for the (edit) shorter of the two. And if I can’t fit an AT boot these could be amusing to kick around as a second ski in the quiver mounted alpine.

People, tell me not to do this. Or to do this. Or if you don’t care either way that’s fine, too :D

no one cares, heh. Anyway, didn’t do this. Because turns out to be 109 Euro shipping

@Westy would appreciate that their engineer is having me back of napkin heating needs for the house by checking how many therms of NG I use over a given overnight period, and correlating that with the overnight temperature.
NG meter read last night and this morning after digging myself a path to its little hutch

5:17 pm yesterday. Not easy to read with 22 years of sun and weather exposure to frost that plastic cover. That’s 1 x millions, between 7-8 for 100,000s, just below 6 for the 10,000s, between 7-8 for the 1,000s. Can’t read the ones in bottom left. Call it 1,757,500 cu ft.

CC68BE8B-9ED2-4399-A672-47851288671F.jpeg

7:47 am this morning. Took a video and called out numbers since couldn’t trust myself to parse this photo.

1,757,500 cu ft or so before. 1,766,500 approx now. 9,000 cu ft of NG for 14.5 hrs. Pretty constant around 21 F over that night.

DF8425F7-EABC-4767-AD98-691E262BED64.jpeg

1,030 BTU per cu ft in theory. Probably 80% boiler efficiency (old, altitude). So needed ~7,416,000 BTU. 511,500 BTU/hr if that’s a thing. Time to see if this is the right order of magnitude at all.

3,700 sq ft, climate zone 7 suggests 222,000 BTU. So assuming it’s the power, the per hour that things are sized on then this seems actually on the right order given that the above estimate is year round afaik and it’s solidly winter now. And the windows are old.

Bookshelf speakers came, and I had to swap out speaker mounts for beefier ones that allowed for more angle. Now I have all four elevation speakers mounted.

:)

Fixed my shoddy height speaker install

4700 arrived today as well. All plugged in. Going through Audyssey calibration now, mic on my camera tripod since that cardboard one is all janky.

Revisiting the "what matchy matchy skis would potentially come in lengths that'd fit eldest kid when she's full size and me alike" idea, here are some ideas, from this overall rather absurdly positive "comparison" listicle by Ski Essentials:

Edit: could also do similar shade 104 Ti for her, 106 Ti+ for me. In a similar vein of close but not absolute matchy would be Blizzard Cochise 106 me, Black Pearl 97 her.

this is the equivalent of skidding one's rear wheel down trails for "style"

There is a *significant* difference, in that the snow-version does no damage like skidding does to the dirt.
that's a fair point

but each seems just for "style"?

15 minutes left at work, must stay entertained

so yes I agree it's just for show, but the snowboarder brah looks to be having fun, so it doesn't bother me.

now if he had an external speaker blaring ..... different story.

For anyone who was following along the liner business, Intuition replied with recommendations:

I'm sorry to hear the Power Wraps aren't working well for you. It's possible that a second heat molding, perhaps with a doubled up toe cap or extra padding, could push out a few extra mm of space where need it.

You could also consider the Pro Wrap which has a roomier toe box and slightly thinner, removeable sole. The volume and stiffness in the upper cuff would be the same, but the forefoot and instep space in the shell would be maximized. This is a roomier model so the size 26 may still be appropriate here.

The other option is the thinner version of the standard Power Wrap, the Plug liners (website store link: Plug). The Plug has thinner body overall, and allows a little more space in the cuff and above the foot. For this model, we generally recommend rounding up to the larger size when the shell is on the half size, so the size 27.

You can always order two pairs to try in your boots and compare. As long as liners are unheated and unused, they can be returned for refund.

IMPORTANT *Check the fit before heating liners:
Try the liners in your boots, with foot beds if you plan to use them. Ideally, the liner should feel snug all over, with no uncomfortable pressure points. Feeling a bit too tight is okay because the liner will compress (foam will thin out) when heated and buckled down. If the liner creases at the heel or bunches at the toe, the liners are likely too big for the shell. If the liners do not fit correctly, DO NOT MOLD them. As long as liners are unheated and unused, you can return them and we can try something else.
Again, this one was waaaaay more than “snug all over, with no uncomfortable pressure points”. Still too tight now In toes.

In looking over my fixed build sheet another time I realized two things:

1) Driver Assistance Lite is actually listed as a separate package (included), even though some of the individual features (e.g. Distronic adaptive cruise) are listed separately as well.

2) Build date apparently got moved earlier! "Prod. date : 03/21/2023". 4/18/23 was the initial production date in Hungary before.

Also checked DCU loan rates today. Up to 5.49% for efficient vehicles now, +0.25% if not. Hmph. I wonder if Mercedes has any captive finance options: apparently they do but don't publish rates anywhere I can see 'em. Shall be worth a try once I get a more solid word on delivery time.
