hot tub-having people:

how important is that little Weir flap thing over the filters? mine has broken off. will see about getting it warrantied but if they balk then does it matter?

You have more than one filter?
mine takes two of these dudes. I have two sets x two filters that I rotate in and out. I was spraying them with filter cleaner then rinsing but just recently took to soaking them in a bath of water + filter cleaner instead. seems to get more gunk out of them.

Granted mine is of unknown age and I inherited it with the house, but it can't be that important, my hot tub doesn't even have one.
many thank
You mean weird flap? I'm assuming you're talking about the one way flap thing right? Not critical but it helps keep larger stuff in the filter area
I think it is Weir

but yes that flap thing

As long as Lexus doesn’t substantively update the RZ I predict we’ll continue to see some very good lease deals

IMG_3765.jpeg

with the CO credit as it stands and 8.81% tax the above is a $92 or so net lease with 0 down.

I don’t want 27/7.5 and don’t need to act until Nov/Dec 2025 but this is a good sign indeed.

In addition to rolling in the CO credit I would also aim for a few thousand off MSRP up top as well. < $125/mo, 0 down, net of the (reduced by then) credit and inclusive of taxes is my goal for a 24/12 lease. The above is about $28 short of goal with the reduced credit so it is highly plausible.

my electric minibike is my now-customary mode of transit when I get the urge to get some lottery tickets

got to rationalize having it, after all, eh

Oh nice. Not the explosive bits, but the dark background. Haven't seen that in a long time.

Japan flight plan:

buy a United Economy Plus subscription in the fall, around when we purchase our winter travel tix to Seattle as usual. book with United for said tix, clearly. $1,299 for subscriber + 8 people + global version of that.

June outbound flight: DEN-SFO-HND on United, paying for these legs. Economy Plus seat upgrades via the aforementioned subscription.

later June return flight. NRT-DEN ultimately on a United 787, but via a convoluted process. 3 business class tix booked as an ANA codeshare via Virgin points transferred from Chase. whew. (I only will have points for these 3.) 2 remaining business class tix booked directly via United to get the PQP, so one of these should be me since I'm the one trying to retain status.

all in all this will be about $20k for the five tix if current May pricing is similar for June when that opens up, with the result being economy plus seats for the awake-time outbound, business class for the overnight inbound. cash for economy + the subscription would be maybe $11k? if all United. cheaper if straight economy with Air Canada or the like.

edit: booking the two paid-for ones as round trips will paradoxically save money.

one way DEN-SFO-HND is $1,060 and one way NRT-DEN is $6,969. but round trip on those very same legs is $6,570 total! if I did this I would probably shift the Economy Plus subscription to be under my wife's name: would get her + kids that upgrade on their separate flight back from Seattle in the winter, and would get them the free upgrade on the Japan outbound legs. many moving puzzle pieces!

edit 2: ooh, maybe we will visit Seattle after all. via United (and the return trip is an ANA codeshare):

DEN-SFO-HND in economy (with the upgrade bump to plus via subscription)
HND-SEA non-stop on a 788 in business

$4,809 round trip! even with the extra SEA-DEN leg that makes a lot of sense.

time to map out whether DEN-SEA then a later SEA-Tokyo and then Tokyo-DEN alternate triangle is cheaper.

alternate triangle also works. United prices again:

SEA-HND in economy
NRT-LAX-DEN via a 789 and then a 737 Max 9 in business

$5,305 round trip.

Mini project: will ostensibly compatible $20/filter 3rd party filters work in my Bullfrog?

I had my doubts due to the extra slot on the OEM Wellspring ones. The oval hole on the 3rd party ones actually seems to do the trick just fine.

(And in theory this should be the last set of filters I need to buy, as Vacasa via a contractor will take over hot tub maintenance once this guy gets moved westward next month.)

unexpected nice news:

called the homeowner's insurance company to update them that the mountain house is all concrete construction as per above posts.

replacement cost increases ~$220k but fire risk is reduced such that the overall premium is still lower.

and now the coverages are correct for actual replacement like for like--this is the right thing to do.

isn't your tub less than a year old?

ah. seems short for a set of filters. our tub is about 5 years old give or take, and still only on the second set.
Got it. These seem to get gunked up, even switching monthly between sets of 2. I threw away 2 that weren’t coming clean even with an overnight soak in filter cleaner.

I may be an excessively dirty individual, who knows

Chainguard finally fell apart. Something like $32 shipped from Pivot to replace this 2018 era part.
