This is an amazing custom build.

Dude did it all himself, too.

Tesla Model Y started shipping today.

It has a heat pump! LR AWD with 19” wheels rated at 316 miles as compared to my 310.

No towing capability. No factory hitch.

Otherwise very much a slightly plumper Model 3 with a hatch. Higher h-point negates much of the added height’s headroom effect.

I am not envious as compared to my 3 and Land Cruiser + hitch rack setup.

In case any of you are interested in dabbling in n=1 lipid testing experiments, my setup is on eBay. I don’t have any more experiments I wish to run and it’s been sitting there idly on my desk.

I turned on Full Self Driving Visualization Mode today.

It shows stop signs, the implicit line at which one should stop, stop lights (including recognizing and displaying turn only lights, with colors updating real time), and cones/barrels. It also displays merge markers on the lane surface and turn only lanes again marked on the surface.

Model Y looks like it could be a realistic replacement for the XC60. Not sure how to get a bike with me as I don't think it would fit anymore even disassembled and if you have it outside the car on long trips I am sure it would ruin the milage.

Did you feel any difference in its ability to drive on it own?

No, the driving part is the same. Only visualization at this point.

I would definitely go hitch rack for a Y.

An update on my 2/3/20 Tesla Energy order: got a call today to schedule installation. 4/1 was the earliest offered date. I picked 4/9 so as to guarantee I'll be home.

Every engine seal, rubber boot and bushing is likely rotten and the tyres will have nice flat spots and be very expired. Basically equivalent to a barn find without the mice shit.
It would have been in so much better shape if it had been driving a little bit. What a waste.

Btw @Toshi what is you impression of the Model Y so far? Seems just like a more roomy 3?

I haven't been following the reviews at all. It looks just like a Model 3 with a higher roofline and higher h-point. This is not a bad thing, but not compelling for 3 owners such as myself.

Re FSD coming out in stages, this current implementation of stopping at traffic lights and stop signs (not available to me--just a leaked manual segment) sounds super, super clunky...

Saw 2.875% on Costco Finance for a 15 year jumbo conforming refi today. Didn’t pull the trigger. Coming from 3.125 I’ll hold out for 2.75%.

And now the rates are super high. Mortgage makes no sense in relation to the discount window, etc.

Meanwhile LIBOR took a nosedive, and I had refinanced at apparently just the right time at the end of last year. I snagged 5 year variable rate loans for the each of us (wife with me co-signing, of course) that are pegged at 1 month LIBOR + no spread.

1 month LIBOR at mid-month, apparently when they reset each month, was 0.93%. I will take that, yes!

For context, here's 1 month LIBOR over time, noting that spread of 2-2.5% above LIBOR was par for the course in the post-recession days. The loan servicers are currently offering 3.50% as their best variable rate for refinance, so back to those 2.5% spread days.

I really don't recall what closing costs were when we bought, what sort of number should they be on a refi?

As @stoney likes to mention, through Costco Finance for Executive Members it should be $175 in fees + ~$550 in appraisal fees. Under $1k all in.

My non-Costco Finance recent refinance cost me a bit more than $1,500 net, iirc.

I got a Costco refi-quote last week.

Currently paying 4.75, the teaser rate was 3.75% @ 20 years but that ship has sailed...

Then I was reminded of the bullshit 3rd party fees (i.e $1229 in title insurance to verify that the previous two times we paid for title insurance it was done correctly...)

So am torn on refinancing vs. just putting the $2000 OOP towards principal, as we only owe $126K currently and hoping to put a good chunk of the Idaho house sale proceeds ($20K?) against our principal...
