I am in the process of looking for a new fork for my new ride for next race season. I race DH, the bike is a M3....which fork and why? pros and cons. The only experience I have had is with a boxxer. they will all be '05 forks or leftover '04's.
I'm not sure anyone can provide respectable feedback on the DH40 just yet. But it'd certainly be worth waiting for if it's as nice as their other forks.
you know, the 888 is a great fork. RockShox has really steped it up this year with thier boxxer, with having more tire clearance and the other internal upgrades. it definatly seems like a great fork as well. The Dorado, has been raced for a long time. I heard rumors that they were having trouble with something this last year, not sure what it was. The 40 on the other hand.... its been raced and hucked this past summer by pro's. I was down at redbull rampage this year and kyle strait was going huge on it with no problems. Personaly, I would go with the fox 40, Fox forks have been proven over the past few years, they know what they're doing. and at 3.2kg, its pretty light for a for that has that much travel and 40mm stantions. go for the 40.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Fox as they are a reliable company who really knows a lot about suspension (their other forks are awesome). However, I would still hold off since I haven't heard any comparison reviews from the pro's riding them instead of other forks (especially considering the price).
If I was spending less, it would be between the 888RC and the Boxxer WC, I would easily go with the Boxxer, but that's just hearsay since I kind of get the impression that the 888RC is more for freeride, and the Boxxer is more for racing.
Now, maybe I'm behind the technological times, but hasn't it pretty much been decided that inverted forks are better due to less movable front wheel weight (or whatever you call it)? If so, I would go with the Dorado, as long as flex isn't a huge problem. If inverted really isn't that much greater, then I'd go with the Boxxer WC (unless you can find reliable non-biased reviews from people who have ridden the Fox). But, I'm an idiot who's mostly compiling the information that I've read, not what I've personally experienced, so you can take this how you may.
the new bushings in the 2005 boxers are a whole lot longer than they used to be. they are like 3 inches tall i think, when they used to be 1 or 1.5" (not exactly sure). as for other stuf, I think they might have made a few other small adjustments, but i can't remember exactly. the big thing is that they now have 3" tire clearance, but they only recomend a 2.7
Ti springs for the WC, and the newfound adjustment allowing it to be ridden rather than bitched about. This is an external adjustment which shuts off the mouth valve.
I agree. All these forks are good. Funny how the Fox is winning the poll but almost nobody has ridden it for more than 30 seconds and it's a first year product.

go for the 888 if you are on a budget, it's the best all around of your options, otherwise the Fox will most likely be the shizz but the price is high and although unlikely, it might have issues. I am a fan of standard (non-inverted) forks because of their stiffness and strength. I don't like that Dorado's often need to be tweaked back into shape after hard falls and I just don't trust Boxxers yet, maybe the '05's are better but only time will tell.
I have ridden a 888 and a Dorado. They are both very nice smooth forks. The 888 is a little heavy but it is not bad at all. I liked it better than the Dorado but I would not complain if I had a Dorado. I have a Boxxer from last year and it is smooth but it has a horrible compression spike at high speeds. I also blew it up on Saturday. I am not to happy with Rock Sox right now but the new boxxer seems like a huge improvement. If the Fox is half as nice as ttheir smaller forks they will have a winner. Competition is so stiff in this industry right now, so it is rather hard to buy a bad fork. I want a 888 for myself but it would be hard to go wrong with any of them.
