Wow. What a stage. Andy deserved that one. Wiggins couldn't hold contact with the heads of state, we'll see if he can on Tuesday.
Is it just me, or did Berto look a little bit vulnerable at the end there?

Wow, I wonder if Jurgen Van Den Broeck has what it takes to make the podium? Good stage, too bad for Armstrong.

I have driven the roads to Morzine when I was there for a DH trip. Remember it as a long ride in the car. I missed out on the action today as I went for the first DH ride of the year. Despite all the road riding I still can't accelerated that quickly but at least I did not wear out well except my hands.

You need to do speed workouts and probably lift some. When I raced DH I lifted, rode, and did sprints. I swear it took more time than training for cross :)

What a stage!!! Too bad for Lance, but great for Andy (my pick for winner this year). I was a bit surprised Contador didn't try to attack more, but maybe he's feeling out the competition?

Seeing how he couldn't go with Schleck's attack at the end, I'm sure he was at his limit. However, the heat could have more to do with it rather than it being an indication of his overall form.

I think that Contador over-trained and now his legs are shot. Did well but took two strokes before giving up on the break with Schleck.

Andy will win this year!!!

Long long way to go yet.

Still, it's true that Contador last year would have covered that easily.

No time for specific training like that and I just ride my DH bike for fun.

Latest news from Denmark is Riis will announce Sungard as new major sponsor but he will still not be able to keep the Schleck brothers.

My vote's with Andy too and I was glad to see Contador not break with him. Should make for an interesting time in the mountains though.

Sungard?? As in the software company?

Yep, just saw the article on Cyclingnews. Cool - we use their some of their stuff here at work.

Bummer on Armstrong. I call BS on sky hitting the front after Amrstrong went down. I think they were trying to eliminate him... but the tactics were a bit underhanded IMHO. Carma layed its smack down on them though. Also the spanish boys in orange need to learn how to keep the rubber side down... jeezuz, what a lame wreck.

As for the final... Solid acceleration by Andy, Contador started to follow but then let it go. I think he's waiting for the later steeper mountain stages to put his stamp down... stage 18 I think it is, I bet he puts in an early attack on that stage.

I want Cadel to take this one. He needs to just go into defense mode and cover all the attacks.

To me, Lance had at best an outside shot at the beginning of the race. He needed everything to go smoothly AND for his main rivals to have some bad luck, creating opportunities. Well, it hasn't gone that way. We'll see if he goes for a stage win or something, but I don't expect anyone will let him get too far up the road (like Landis). I'm not a huge Lance fan, but I was hoping to see him in an epic GC battle, so it's sort of a bummer.

Every year it seems to come down to High mountain climbing acceleration. We always see Levi, Cadel, Schlecks fail at this......so few possess that ability.

I think Andy can hang with those accelerations just fine. Frank maybe not, so maybe it's good he's out, for Andy's sake.

Watching Contador vs. Rasmussen was a thing of beauty though...

True but atleast he doesn't TT like Rasmussen did that one year. 43677 crashes and 45771 bike changes. That was painful to watch
It's all part of racing, there are days when you do spectacular things, and then days where it all tumbles apart. Look at Lance's bad luck the other day, s*** happens. But to be fair The Chicken did come unraveled himself, too much pressure.

I'm reading the live coverage on Cyclingnews and this cracked me up tremendously.

"Vinokourov attacks for Astana. Or perhaps more accurately, for Vinokourov."

Hahaha, I like how the media have dubbed him the loose cannon.

LOL! I missed that. I usually follow it there, and sometimes their comments are awesome. But this year I'm watching it live on the iPhone app. Love it.

On another note... AND THEN THERE WERE TWO!!!!

Felt really bad for Evans... I bet his rest day workout didn't fit what his body needed in order stay ready to go. Anyway that was bonktastic.

EDIT: So now there saying he was riding with a fractured left elbow. He's a seated climber. Tyler Hamilton hung with everyone and got on the podium that year he had a fractured clavicle, so I don't buy that the, "my elbow ruined his tour today" excuse.

Word from BMC team is that he has a fractured elbow.

Yup, I think it's gonna be those two, then Menchov for 3rd...
