Lance left his wife and kid for Sheryl Crow. I could understand that a few years ago, but NOW??
is that a fact or rumor?

I heard he and his wife had been having trouble for a few years and they split after last years tour permanently.

Some have blamed Lance's weaker than normal performance last year on his marital problems.

It would be cool to see Lance win a 6th, but I would love to see a darkhorse like Julich or Leipheimer take it. Tyler is tough as nails, but until he can learn to take the training wheels off his bike it will be hard for him to win, the dude looks like he is having seisures when he is on his TT bike.

Now he didn't

He dated a few other people before he started w/ Crow.
He and his wife split because she didn't want to be second to the tour. She wanted Lance to settle down and stop riding.
Yeah... like that was going to happen. :nopity:

BLAH!?

....he did WIN!
True, and he fought through some very tough situations, he just did not dominate like in years past. If you did not consider the TTT, Ulrich had a faster time. Probably why the tour officials came up with the goofy TTT time loss restrictions.

I disagree on a personal level, I cannot and will not root if a guy's a scumbag outside the game. I have no reason to believe that Lance is a scumbag... which was my point.

If it's true that his wife was having a problem with being second to cycling -and- that was the primary reason for the divorce, then it's a real shame they couldn't find a way to make it work. I mean, how much longer can the guy actually ride vs how long they could be married :(

A female friend of mine had some woman's magazine that she clipped an interview with Lance's ex-wife from. In it she said the main reasons for the split were:
a) She felt she would never come before cycling.
b) She is very religous, Lance is not.

so what do you all think of the new Max. time penalty rule ??
From VeloNews
Roy Townsley sees a French Socialist conspiracy in the new rule limiting the time loss an individual rider can suffer in the team time trial. I might submit that this rule goes to the heart of Tour de France culture and its origins.

The Tour's founder, Henri Desgrange, felt very strongly that the winner of the Tour should be the victor by virtue of his own efforts. He detested the idea that a weaker rider might win because he had a stronger team or that a better rider might fail to win because his team was not strong enough.

It all came to a head in the 1929 Tour when an ailing Maurice Dewaele was nursed through the final stages and eventual overall victory by his powerful Alcyon team. This enraged Desgrange. The next year, trying to solve the problem, Desgrange did away with trade teams and switched to a national-team format. This did not bring about the resolution Desgrange sought, but it demonstrates the seriousness with which this question was viewed.

In the 21st century, we don't take these concerns as seriously as Desgrange did, but the strength of the Tour culture cannot be ignored.

They have had that rule before...back in the 80s, I think. What's going to be interesting is seeing how intermittent rain will affect the different teams based on their starting times. I hope it clears up late for Lance!
