With the advent of the internet, the world has become a much smaller place, people on opposite sides of the world now talk to each other daily and form lifelong friendships without ever meeting.

So, the idea for a magazine article was formed in my head. Editor thinks its a goer. Oh btw, im actually an established monkey, but changed handles to avoid certain people wanting to tag along should this become a goer.

So, to the plan. Spend the summer cruising from spot to spot sleeping on as many floors as we can, riding as many spots and drinking as much beer as we can. Kind of a Dropin style thang, but with us rank amateurs. Keeping a running total of mileage covered, beers drunk, injuries, women. That kinda thing and doing monthly articles on the big name places we visit that you dont see in the mags that often. Hook up with the locals, ie. you guys and get some grass roots riders back in the mags, the local boys.

So if you were to have the opportunity to fly to one of the big airports in canada, buy a van and drive your ass around the country, where would you start, go and end?

Cheers fellow :dancing:

PS. can i sleep on your floor please :D

Don't forget to hit Vancouver Island. It has some worthy riding spots and there are parts of it that make for exciting road trip moments.
1 hour plus of vacant dirt road rally driving anyone?

now youve gotta bare in mind im pretty clueless about BC at the mo, but im researching. Im using this map to get around at the moment. What sort of time scale do you think i should be looking at to hit the good spots, im figuring the season runs april-ish thru to sept? Want to go for as long as possible with as little expenditure as possible. My Ed. suggests i get arrested and visit strip joints, just to spice it up a bit. Anyone suggest and good clubs? ;)

I don't know if you're looking for downhill specifically or not, but if you want to make it out of BC, I think Saskatoon has some trialsin folks, winnipeg has a new hill near by, and there's lots of urban riders there (that's where I'm from but not currently living). I'm in southern ontario now. There's something like 8 or 9 Ontario cup downhill races throughout the season and there's supposed to be a bunch of DS races. As for the east coast....never been :)

I think you should travel from east to west, finishing up with BC, Whislter, and Vacouver Island. I have heard about a cheap hotel near Whistler that is located above a strip club....sounds like an opportunity to 'spice thing up', maybe even get arrested.

Shes a real goer eh? (like the use of that word).

Im sure in Vancouver among other places you could get arrested at many a peeler bar. The one in whistler is just had peelers at certain times....

Watching drop In would be a good sorce of spots or areas to hit. Definatly have to spend a week in whistler.

.
That the best thing about "The Boot" It's a regular bar except one day a week when the ladies come out. You don't have to feel sleezy about going to a strip club

Wouldnt mind doing some races thats for sure, the Dropin route from series 1 seems to be pretty well thought out, jus dont want it to end in a dropin rippoff, if you know what i mean.

I'll take one bike, which will likely be a big rig..

If you can only bring one bike make it the big one for sure. Watching Drop in 2 makes me wish i was in BC. Washington isnt bad, but man BC has some insane riding. Glad its just a few hours drive to Vancouver and whistler....

good luck. Sounds fun no matter what you do.....

Dropin 2 hits some good spots. I think both do really well. There are other gems around too. My route might be a little different than most because I would save whistler for the desert at the end (fairly groomed and fast is ok for a long trip)

I would get dropped in vancouver
-> hit the north shore when you are fresh, maybe 2 solid days. The shore will take some skill and energy that other spots may not require (check out gutsploder.com)
-> Head to hope and then penticton. I don't know about riding in hope but I think there is some but I know penticton for sure has amazing riding.
-> Keep going west to Nelson/Rossland. Make sure you put some time in here. Some of the best riding in bc. Rossland is considered the true mountain biking capital by some and nelson is considered as nutty as the shore for retarded stunts.
-> Next would be golden. Solid tech downhill and for fun you could stop in Revelstoke on the way through. It is supposed to be some REAL dh not the groomed kind whistler offers (this is from a dhiller, I think whistler is tech enough for me)
-> Kamloops/Sunpeaks would be my next stop. Lots of riding here so you might want a few days. Kelowna is only a few hours away so it might be worth it to stop for 4 days and get some driving in. Sun peaks is growing and getting better, shoud be a baby whistler to play at.
-> Pemberton - some of the steepest technical terrain around. Definatley make a stop and ask a local where to ride.
-> whistler - Finish off with at least one day riding in whistler valley (no one does it) and a bunch up top. Lots to offer with well over 100 trails within the valley/mountain you could ride here for a month and still not ride everything.
-> Squamish for some good xc/hike a bikes for tech stuff.
-> If you got the time head across to the island. Don't know much about it, but mocha and universe rave about it, and if they like it, it is probably pretty good considering they are shore riders.

That would be my route. Other spots to look at. Kimberly is a growing resort and may offer some hidden gems.Vernon and Fernie I hear good things about periodically. Really you are doing a big loop of southern bc. you will see almost everything bc has to offer from the southern side. You longest drive will be through to penticton otherwise 4 hours max ride time for the rest.

My vote would be to travel east to west. Depends on how long you're traveling I suppose. If you've got the time I say fly to Montreal and start there. Amazing social scene in Quebec and plenty of skilled riders, plus there is a ton of great riding there Bromont and Tremblant are close by and both host Canada Cups.

From there you could head up to Quebec City, amazing urban riding all around, plus MSA is near by. They are also hosting the Canadian National Championships this year in addition to the WC.

From Quebec I would head over to Toronto. I've got a big house in the beach in Toronto so you and your crew are welcome to crash. There is a good scene here for street/urban. For DH Blue Mountain is only 1.5 hours away and even has 500ft of vert it has some damn good DH trails, they're planning a nice big 4x course and terrain park for next year and weekends can be fun as the village has some good bars with nice looking girls. Wasaga Beach is near-by (longest freshwater beach in the North America) tons of honeys hang out there in the summer, and it hosts Wakestock (WC).

From there you can drive across Northern Ontario across the Canadian shield. There are ton of rocks and cool riding spots right off the TransCanada highway. Stop in Sault Saint Marie and ride Searchemont (the only Norba sanctioned DH racing in Canada stops here).

Pack up the van again and start heading west again, there are supposed to be some good trails in Thunder Bay but I've yet to ride them. Might want to stop in Winnipeg and ride the old city there, pretty damn flat so you'll probably only ride street.

Then it's a long haul across the Prairies. Set the cruise go to sleep for the next 15 hours and wake up in Calgary, Alberta. Check out Millennium skate park, ride COP, hook up with the locals go ride some epic XC in the Rockies. From Calgary you're going to have a tough choice deciding which kick-ass park to hit Fernie, Panorama and Kicking horse all rock. Kicking Horse offer 6500 ft gondola shuttled DH trails. Both Fernie and Panorama offer established downhill parks and 100's of kilometers of trails. Personally I'd hit Kicking Horse first then drive south to Panorama followed by Fernie.

From there you're pretty close to Nelson (BC) so hook up with some locals there and ride some of their stellar trails. There are so many good spots in BC you're going to need a whole summer to ride there. Next you could head up the Okanogan riding Kelowna/Silverstar then north to Kamloops where you can ride their local trails and Sun Peaks.

From Kamloops head to the Coquihalla Highway to the lower mainland of BC. Ride everywhere. Hit the Shore, make sure you ride all three mountains (Seymore, Cypress, Grouse) because each is unique and offers amazing trails. Hooks up with boys at Cove for and they'll guide you in the right direction. Once you've had your fill of Vancouver head north to Whistler, I don't think I need to say anything more other then enjoy everything Whistler has to offer ride the park, the DJ's and the local XC. I'd also suggest taking a day and heading up to Pemberton for some riding I haven't been but I hear it's steep and epic.

Once you've had your fill of Whistler you'll want to head back down south and ride the trails around Squamish. Then head back to Vancouver and hop on a ferry to Vancouver Island. Ride Victoria, Check out Mt. Washington as I hear they have a budding DH park there. Tons of good riding all around the Island.

I know I've probably left a few places out, I mainly listed the places I've ridden. If I had the summer off and the budget to do the mother of all road trips that's what I'd do.

See you on the trails,

flow (aka Jeremy)

Don't take this seriously, but I was watching Pulp Fiction last night, so this reminds me a dialog between Jules and Vincent:

JULES
That's what I've been sitting here
contemplating. First, I'm gonna
deliver this case to Marsellus.
Then, basically, I'm gonna walk the
earth.

VINCENT
What do you mean, walk the earth?

JULES
You know, like Caine in "KUNG FU."
Just walk from town to town, meet
people, get in adventures.

VINCENT
How long do you intend to walk the
earth?

JULES
Until God puts me where he want me
to be.

VINCENT
What if he never does?

JULES
If it takes forever, I'll wait
forever.

VINCENT
So you decided to be a bum?

JULES
I'll just be Jules, Vincent -- no
more, no less.

VINCENT
No Jules, you're gonna be like
those pieces of sh*t out there who
beg for change. They walk around
like a bunch of f*ckin' zombies,
they sleep in garbage bins, they
eat what I throw away, and dogs
piss on 'em. They got a word for
'em, they're called bums. And
without a job, residence, or legal
tender, that's what you're gonna be
-- a f*ckin' bum!

Then again, I like to be a bike bum again...

the last thing i want to see in print magazines is more "amateurs" with funny helmets, goofy pads and barhump style...that's what the internet is for and half of the magazines/videos are filled with that stuff already.

i'd rather see "pros" who look good on their bikes and who have a sense of a proper looking kit (jeans/jersey). i don't care where they are as long as it looks good.

i can see "grassroots" riders all over town...i want to spend my money on stuff i haven't seen or rarely get to see.

my personal opinion.

if you're coming out with a vehicle, I'm a dirtbag without one, I'd be more than happy to show you some non-bikepark stuff in the area....if you're into high alpine singletrack, spruce lake is one of the best places I've ever ridden.....
