Well it is prom day at Riverside High School, a farming community about 50 minutes outside of Pittsburgh. Riverside is where I teach 9-12th grade technology education. The tradition of driving your tractor to school on prom day has gone on for longer than most of the students I have in class have been alive! This year was no different. I have been quite busy getting ready for prom cause I have to print all the prom booklets, and since I came here 6 years ago we started a T-shirt sale with a new Riverside Redneck top 10 every year. This year I only printed 11 dozen shirts front and back. Here are some of the pics of today’s tractor parade.

With a police escort the tractors made their approach

The tractors driven here come in all sizes

BIG

medium

small

X-Small

Even the Girls drive these things!

when they were all parked there were quite a few!

Bek brought Emma out to check out the festivities, and she found a big Massey Harris that may have been a little big!

but I think this Cub was a fun fit!

a couple of the nicer tractors, and some of my better students,
one of my best graphics students J. Cooper, this kid spends so much of his free time working on Photoshop he teaches me things!

Whitlatch, this kid is one of our better Jav throwers!

Jamie and Ben 2 great kids. Ben helped Cooper put the Redneck shirts together this year!

this kid actually made a wheelie bar for his tractor! (you can see why)

Since I told my students to leave the SH!T spreaders at home it was all just good clean fun again this year. I hope you enjoy the photos!

At the risk of sending this thread to PAWN hell, what's the deal with the confederate flag there? Is that still OK where you teach? Again, not meaning to start a sh*tfight, just interested.

Pgh is pretty diverse in that regard, there are some very progressive urban areas where that would be totally unacceptable, but in the area brungeman teaches, out in the rural areas you still see alot of that type of stuff...

I agree with the "get over it you lost crap"...

Funny though...I don’t think he meant to post the pics to start a north vs south political debate...take it for what it's worth...

well as far as the confederate flags go they are illegal to have in your vehicle etc. but on tractor day the rule doesn't apply? :dead: :redhot: (I ask about it all the time) Last year I had a lecture time with My students who drove tractors, and told them how stupid it makes them look. NOT COOL... NOT huh huh REDNECK... JUST UNEDUCATED AND STUPID. I don't even think our FVCKING history dept. teaches the kids what that damn flag stands for!

My background, I grew up in an affluent subburb of Pittsburgh, and after 9th grade couldn't take the damn plastic land area, so I went to the Creative And Performing Arts high school of Pittsburgh. An inner city school (which was in one of the worst neighborhoods in the city) I went from a school with graduating class of 600-700 where there may have been 3 black families and as many other minority families, to a school graduating 34 of which 7 of us were white! It was one of the best experiences!

it makes me angry and disgusted that the kids don't understand what diversity is, and what that flag stands for! :mumble: and for the ones that do and put it on their tractors anyway? :redhot: I'd like to give them a little history lesson, on torture techniques:banghead: :ouch:

So should would our reaction be greater/lesser if they were flying one of 3 variants of an actual CSA "national" flag instead of the Southern Cross?

edit: it seems versions 2 and 3 did incorporate the Southern Cross. 1st one did not.

It disgusts me that so many people have a stick up their asses about a flag. Not that I condone it, or don't think it's stupid, but I refuse to allow it to consume one millisecond of my day thinking about it. It's history. We fought a war with Mexico in TX, where I am sure I lost some ancestors. I could care less if someone flies a Mexican flag here. My only issue is that they should fly an American flag with it, if they care. Personally - I think flags are stupid. It's not like we're pirates or on some marching war campaign.

Good job making a thread about a cool little part of rural America about racism and hate guys.

A lot of the bigger tractors are actually working right now. Most of these (not all) are either retired from hard work, or are the extras that could make the trip without being missed on the farms. Pluss most of the farmers are dairy, and only farm 100-300 acres so super huge stuff just isn't that prevelant. the topography doesn't lend itself to big tractors either. if you have ever been in the area you know hills and valleys are a regular obstacle for the farmers, and more agile tractors work a little better. but I do remember my first year here, a kid borrowed a tractor from his boss that had duals all the way around, IT WAS BIG!!! on the way home he was going down hill with the clutch in, trying to see how fast he could get it going, he got squirly and went off the road into a ditch ripping the front axle clean off. the thing rolled, and ripped the cab apart, but he was ok. the tractor was totalled! that almost ended tractor day!

I so wish we would have had that when I was a young'un. I'd have rocked the 1155 with the triples installed, the 82 foot air seeder and packer bar in tow. :D

Right on - I mean - you could even rock a 9750 or something. I fully expected to see at least on 8400 series tractor. Instead - someone drove a White. :dead:

Seems like a lot for a drill, but that's cool. Look at the room on the hood and the fenders. Plenty of oppurtunities to bang chicks on that thing. :thumb: I approve.

one of my students saved up his money (from milking at 4 am every morning) and bought a White a few years back for a couple hundred bucks. he spent all his spare time in the metals/power tech lab rebuilding the engine (holy SH!T was it heavy) when he was done painting it etc, he put the thing back together and ran it as a pulling tractor. his first pull with the thing at a local event he got 3rd. 2 events later after some adjustements he won. I think he had around $1500 into it, and was beating some of the "big dogs" in the area. Pretty cool that he did a lot of the work here at school too!

I did that in a combine. I got going too fast and tried to apply brakes, but these things dont exactly have big brakes. Slamming it into gear wasnt much of an option as a) I couldn't and b) it'd probably end up endo-ing the thing. I passed a car. :dead:

Managed to keep it between the lines, though. I stopped and changed my shorts at the bottom. :o:

They have combine races back where I come from. Demo-derby style. Open wheeled racing at its best, baby!

they have those about an hour north of here ( an hour and a half out of Pittsburgh) they are super popular, not just among the rural folk, but all of the "city folk" too!

Damn tractors are pimp nowdays. :thumb:

The 'nicest' that we ever really rocked was a 4850. We had the duals on the front assist wheels too. We used it as our loader.

 Tractor crash stories...... I love it.

Mine: my old man had just purchased an old 8N Ford and let me drive it home. I was f**king around on it while driving the 4 miles back to the farm when I pulled up on the steering wheel (for some odd reason) and the fu**er came off in my hands.

Wheels turned right toward a ~20 foot deep ditch/hill. I bailed just before it went in. Had to change my shorts after that one too.

We rolled an 8100 that was really nice. It was only 165 hp though, so a disc bigger than 25' would bog it down.

I have two kind of crash stories - several destroyed parts, but those weren't crashes.

1 - I was driving a Kubota when the steering arm broke and I ran through a fence. I drove home in low range using the brakes to steer.

2 - crossing a creek the bank gave out and I slid in and bottomed the front end of the 8100. Without duals it would have rolled. I put it in MFWD and eased out. The left duals had over 3 ft under them. Scary - I almost pooped.
