Trail use and construction

Maybe this is a better approach. It is always a fantastic idea to go through all of the appropriate channels to begin using or constructing trails. If you do not, you jeopardize existing trails and can cause closures or restrictions that are not necessary. Thanks for reading.

Mountain bikers have tried being nice and going through the proper channels and writing to parks commissioners and county governments here for about 15 years... If you manage to talk to someone in person, you get "oh, that's a travesty, mountain bikes should be allowed!". But nothing ever changes. There is not one single interesting trail in this county that is open to mountain bikes. So we just ride. It's never gonna be legal anyways so it's not like we are jeopardizing anything. They can't close any of our trails because there are no trails that are open.

However for most of the rest of the US, where there is some sort of access to start with, you are obviously correct.

NEMBA's Land Management Committee
Focuses on “Vietnam”
by Mitchell Steinberg (SingleTracks #74, 2004)

After accomplishing the incredible feat of becoming the first mountain bike group to purchase and own property, many folks are wondering what's going on with Vietnam. Here’s an update about what we’ve been doing, and a glimpse into where we are going with the property.

Didn't get Bob on the phone. We missed each other's calls, but he posted that I was right about use and that he would talk to see what usage was possible before doing any riding. :thumb: Of course, there are still the kids on MoJo that don't get it. They apparently forgot about the cats that were arrested earlier in the year for digging. Oh well, maybe they will get it next.

What's wrong with riding where you don't have permission. You'll find most examples in the Austin FR forum.

Well, I guess we probably did cross some private property on the last GB romp, but most of the people in Austin won't seek that stuff out. There are enough legal trails that we're spoiled.
