Heh - no. If you use software that is Microsoft OS-dependent, Linux will just make your life *much* harder. If you're just doing web/email stuff, you could probably eek out some more life from that thing. What's the bitchy software?
AutoCAD Fusion 360 is one. H&R Block another. Lightroom is too, but thats less OS related and more Adobe. Otherwise the rest of my open source software is still good.

But yes, in general it's mostly just my email/porn/web surfing machine.

Yeah - you're probably not gonna wanna do the Linux thing. If you need to run those things, you're gonna be tied to Windows...

Fortunately, new laptops aren't really *that* expensive... sorta. :D

Yes. Had to cover the first 30 days with vacation/sick. I had about two weeks, so leave without pay for the last two-ish. Should be starting short term disability after. Scheduled to be cleared for work again May 11th. So, sort of sucks with reduced pay. But, bright side, I should be able to run parts.
that's..... odd. when my wife had her accident we were able to get it so her short term started right away. shoot me an email if you wanna chat on this further.

Fusion 360 isn't actually too bad once you get the hang of it. More user friendly than either UG or ProE.

It's no Solidworks, but it's also free, which is a heckuva lot less than whatever princely sum a Solidworks seat goes for these days.

It is going to suck being at home all the time. I can't drive. Basically at home, watching tv, using computer and phone, sleeping and hopefully some machining.
Not being able to drive was a kick in the balls. Felt like being in prison.

Probably depends on what STD he/she has/had. My employer currently offers two plans, one that kicks in at 2 weeks, another that kicks in at a month, with a slight cost difference between the two. When I got hit, the only option was the 1 month plan.

Thats why I asked, I would upgrade it thats the case, either way. I wouldn't want to run something that no longer gets security updates.

Luckily Microsoft has made it pretty easy to upgrade to Windows 10 for no cost.

My prior laptop was a Dell. It was so incredibly bad, that I'd be upset to learn someone didn't intend for it to be that bad. There was very little redeeming about that thing, and it cost $2500 circa 2005. I still look at Dells and can't help feel some deep rooted sense of animosity.

So this fucking loan guy. He kept calling our loan a HELOC and I kept correcting him. Well, turns out our loan isn't a HELOC and our interest rate is actually less. Go figure.

We aren't talking out any cash. So it's not a home equity line of credit at all. WTF, you have ONE JOB.

I think you have to sign in either poo or crayons at fisher price lending institutions.

Cheap cover story. Probably an ANTIFA deep state conspirator here to make our frogs gay and take our freedumbs.
This is not a democracy. We don't need any cover to take your freedumbs.

I'm sending the gay frogs to take your guns.
