If it wasn't something they had to order I would have done just that. Alas, I have been waiting for it to make its way from the Yeti factory, which is literally 5 miles down the road from where I work, to the shop. That may be the most frustrating part.
I ordered mine on Saturday and it's on the truck for delivery today, taking the afternoon off for bonding time.

EDIT: Brown delivers!

Wife bought our house at the height of the bubble and now that the zombie house and the deadbeat house have both sold, we are barely flush where she bought in 2007.
Wait for the bubble to pop this time. You already made that mistake once before.

That is a whole other issue. The bubble was created by people maxing out the imagined equity in the home they had or just bought. This time around it is people paying $40k over list in an all cash deal, not folks with a 540 credit score and 2 part time jobs getting approved for $500k house with an ARM or interest only loan. At least that is Portland.

Just one of MANY examples: Ebay opened an office in downtown and brought about 250 people with them. A portion of those people were paying between $3k and $5k per month for housing in San Francisco and have since sold. They have no issue paying a premium because it's still 50% of what they were paying before and Ebay paid them to move. The silicon forest has rebounded and attracted a lot of silicon valley in the process.

There will be another tech bubble in Portland before there is another housing bubble at this rate. The bottom line is a house is a sh!t investment, I just want to find someplace to live that is within riding distance from the office and stumbling distance from a bar.

Wifey wants to buy a bigger house. I keep telling her that we should sell now and rent, then buy in the winter. I keep losing this argument.

It has come to this. I have been dropping hints with my wife saying we should meet at home for lunch... you know, to test out the ol' vasectomy and stuff... she sent me a meeting request via Outlook today to schedule the time. How romantic... oh well, IDGAF, I'll take it!

We will likely rent before we buy again, but it looks like we are in the sticks at least another year. If the new gig works out like it should, we could put away some coin over the next 12 months and look at either selling our place, or even renting it out (we could get $2k/month for it) then rent with an option to buy, or just rent somewhere we like.

But she also REALLY wants a place in the gorge. So we might buy a plot, drop a trailer and then rent a place here until we win the lottery and retire.

What's more awkward is the 2-3 male coworkers of hers on the distribution list.

Well, it wasn't liable to get much worse.
Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of sketch left in the St Johns area. But North Portland started getting revamped in 2000 ('hood moved to SE along the max to Gresham), and NE/SE have been getting more and more saturated (my son's old place on Division and 28th will soon be a high rise) and the building code has been changed to allow up to 5 stories. So a lot of the 2 story apartments along Hawthorne will get dozed and become 5 story condos. From 50th (Mt Tabor) to the waterfront.

Hell, Mt Tabor has grown all the way East to 82nd! There is 5 years of COPS footage from 82nd, but its about to get overtaken. :panic:

Friends of ours bought a dumpy place across the street from Mt. Scott Park, right off of Foster and 82nd right about the same time we bought out place in Battle Ground back in 04 ('05?). They recently had to move because home values had gone up so much they could no longer afford the property taxes. They made a goddamn killing on that place when they sold though and bought some tract house out between Clackamass and Sunnyside.

The first years of COPS were the best years.
For those who don't know, COPS started in Portland. Fun fact, I did not know this before I moved here. Then the month before I moved, they did a month of Multnomah county. Then while driving in North Portland looking for a $400/month 5 bedroom house for rent, I recognize a car in a driveway I saw on COPS. There was a brief star-struck "I've seen this neighborhood on COPS!" moment followed by a sinking feeling of "I've seen this neighborhood on COPS!" and I left the area.

A friend of mine soon pointed out the areas of interest and the areas to avoid. Some of those areas have changed a lot, some are quite the same. I think Sandy Blvd will always be sketchy.

And Foster used to be the start of southern sketch. Right after the bubble a friend bought in Mt Tabor. He's had it 8 years and it is more than twice what he paid based on his refi (he went to a low interest 15 year fixed). He figures he'll have it paid off in 10 and just die there. But should he ever need to sell, his place wouldn't last a day on the market.

The reality is when you make $130k/year and are paying $3k/month, you feel wicked broke. But make $130k/year and move to Portland for $1500/month and now you have money for PBR and beard products.

I've lots of fond memories of places on Sandy in the Hollywood district.
Actually, Hollywood has gone insane. I went to a party at an oral surgeons house just north of Sandy and 40th. The house was very unassuming from the outside, but when you walked in, holy hell that place was amazing. My boy used to run the kitchen at Columbia River Brewing and Snoops uncle Reo just reopened on Sandy just up the street. But get closer to 82nd and it's still sketch. Many a fun night in my 20's at the Sandy Jug (now the Pirates Cove, I think).

It makes sense. There is a ~15% spread in prices between summer and winter here. I can carry for quite a while with my gains while I look for a property that Wifey likes and we aren't dependent on selling our house to buy a new one. Flexibility is king when it comes to investing.

Dude - get rid of the GT. What riding conditions could it *possibly* fit that the Yeti won't?
The 6c and the Sensor are very different bikes. 130mm trail bike vs 160mm enduro bike. Different weight, geo etc. I am sure they ride very differently. For me a 160mm bike like that would be way too much bike.

@Serial Midget you have turned into the bike pimp of the Lounge what an amazing stable.

He's got a hardtail for that 130mm shit. :D

I actually thought that the GT was a 5" bike.

So maybe... just maybe it makes sense?

Besides, n+1, right?

Back in the hood of 5 Points in Denver the Chicas all called me pimp blanco pequeño, years later I learned what they actually meant was camarón blanco pequeño.

Weighs 28.8 with boomslang pedals.

I'm keeping the road bike, 02 XTC hardtail and a Trek commuter, the Amsterdam bike will be given away within the week. That makes 6 which is a reasonable amount because you do need a day of rest.

When I moved to Great Falls I rented for 18 months, $1,400 a month while we waited for some super cheap square footage to come on the market. I made an offer the day after this place listed and began moving within the week because I didn't have my housing funds tied up in equity.

Not necessarily... I feel a letter coming on... : dear Penthouse, I can't believe this ever worked, but I managed to invite a few extra people to a "date lunch" I scheduled with my wife without her knowing... I'd been watching lots of youporn and it gave me an idea....

That's why people live there?

Don't get me wrong - I'm glad 8 million people do... 'cause if they didn't, probably 2 million of them would move here. :dead:
Yeah, try 20 million in the metro area.

https://www.google.com/search?q=nyc+metro+area+population&oq=nyc+metro+area+population&aqs=chrome..69i57j0.2935j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Still peanuts compared to Tokyo. 37 million? 39? with twice the density of NYC. (Yet it doesn't smell like piss, because Japanese people.)
