Anyone out there swapped the stock romic out for another shock(aside from the push which is not aviaible to the public)? What results have you noticed/feedback?

If anyone has a romic that fits 04 dhr i'll be happy to buy it off you.

Although I wouldn't count Push out, for the time being the shock I have is not in production.

you're only options as of now is Romic, Ava or maybe that 3 way Swinger.

The avy will fit between the top tubes on the 04 large turner no problems, the 04 medium requires a slight mod (my frame is a 04 medium) to fit but it will work, and the 04 small doesn't and will need to be mounted on the seat mast like Espens old bike.

other option : 2 weeks ago I saw a DHR with a Fox Vanilla DH (with the remote reservoir fixed on the swingarm).

Maybe never sold separately, but they were available on the 2003 Kona Stab Primo (and maybe some other bikes ?), so you can find a used one .. if you're lucky enough ...
Anyway, it should be easier to find a Vanilla DH than a Push ;)

I'm 98% sure the Kona Stab Primo uses a different shock lenght/stroke than the DHR.

You're probably right !
So the only possibility is to find the one built for the M1 ... in that case, to be lucky is maybe not enough .. :)

I have a risse Jupiter7 that i ran on my scream. Its the wrong size right now, but they said for a small fee i could get the damper rebuilt into the 9.5 x 3 spec of the DHR, although i'd have to find my own spring if the romic didnt work. The risse pretty much matches fox specs for springs and such. Ive been too lazy to do it, but might just to see whats its like.

maybee this was just a rumor but i heard that there supposed to come out in 05 but i havent seen or heard anything about them so your probly right.

that would be why we suggested shocks without resoviors or with remote resivores. and welcome to rm its an awsome place :thumb:

The Stab Primo has the 8.75/2.75 size...plus apparently the OEM Vanilla DH on the Stabs were regular Fox RCs with remote resevoirs, that's it.

The Vanilla DH I saw on ebay a few days ago (auction expired since then) was a 9.5x3.0 so I'm assuming it was the 'real' Vanilla DH.

That's right for the 2003 Stab Primo, but the one on the 2004 Stab Primo is the real Vanilla DH, with the AVA technology.

ill get on the chopping up of an RC this week to see about the remote reservoir thing, dont really think its going to be all that difficult at all.

here a pic from fridays frankenfoxing session that resulted in an interesting shock for disco and 02 dhr owners in the sense that its the stock length but 1/4" extra stroke.

Yesterday, I saw at the WC the dhr of Justin Leov and Lars Peyer, who are support by Supension Center. They have the news fox dhx shocks with remote reservoirs but I don't now if it's a tunning from Supension Center or Fox.
Really? that is interresting! Would be nice to have Fox offer that option.

care to elaborate on this?
1/4" extra stroke would result in how much extra travel?
I can hear my '02 crying for some extra travel halfway across town
:p

ah its pretty simple.

i took a few RC`s i got for experimentative purposes apart and measured how much i could shorten the shock body on a 8,75/2,75 before the valve nut hits the bottom.

i did this because i noticed the shock body on the 2,75" stroke and on the 2,5" stroke are the same and so is all the remaining structural parts, this meant to me that the 2,5" stroke had space in there to AT least chop both the body by 1/8" and the shaft by another 1/8" then id have a shock with the same size as the stock 2,5" (which is 8,5") but 1/8" more stroke.

so when i disassembled and measured things i noticed that i could just chop 1/4" off off the shock body and i would still have less shaft insertion at full bottom out than what happens on the stock 2,25" (7,875" i2i) shock, hence i deemed it doable and now im going to pick the shock bodies i modded to different lengths up from the machine shop later on.

so, your bike is progressive and has a 3 to 1 leverage ratio, that would mean that your travel increase would be less than 3/4" but probably not less than 1/2", i dont know really how much, plus youd have to check what happens if you compress your linkage another 1/4", take the shock out and bring the eyelets to 146mm distance and see what happens, maybe someone that has a better grip on the dhr linkage could tell us if this mod would be useful or not, you never know maybe the linkage does funny things, from the looks of it as i can remember it, i dont thinks so though.
